can anyone help me out : the other day my srt 4 started to smoke {white smoke} and it smelt like oil i recently bought the car and had to replace the turbo in the first week of owning it whats the easy way to find out what it is please and thank you
If there is any water in your oil, it'll be a milky white color. But, white smoke is indicitive of water entering your combustion chamber, so there is definitely the possibility of a head gasket going. Also, you say you replaced the turbo already....Since they are water cooled, there is a possibilty it could be leaking internally as well. Do a compression test first though, since it's fairly easy and only requires removal of the spark plugs.
that what i would say do a compressing test and post what numbers you got and also a leak down test will also tell you alot about the motor. you can get these tools from oreilly and rent them or just keep them. i replaced my turbo not to long ago and the same time i did my head gasket. you can get a complet top end gasket set from modern peformance. good luck keep us infromed on whats going on.
Compression test Well when they did my first compression test when they replaced the turbo i remember the first one was 76 second one they ciuldnt get out third one was in the 64 range ad the fourth one was in 73 and i yhing he said it was ran in 90psi And im gonna do anoter comp test tonight got all the sparkpligs out so ill keep ya posted thanks alot guys :ilovesrtc:
Did my compression test again today 1st cylinder 90 2'd cylinder 95 3'd cylinder 94 4'th cylinder 95:help:
That's seems a little low to me, but since they are all about the same, maybe the head gasket is ok. Check your oil. If its milky, you have an issue. If not, then the only other way for water to get into your engine and burn off to make white smoke is from your turbo.
I had this happen to me less than a month ago. You should check your PCV Valve - the internals of mine vanished one day and I began smoking very similar to what you described. Hope this helps because I was about to tear mine apart to replace all the gaskets.
