I was talking with a vendor the other day and trying to decide which short block to go with. I have ported/polished heads and intake with a 90mm tb. I'm trying to get the most bang for my buck and figure if the 426 or 440 will do that. Both are price about the same so that not the big issue the advise i was giving was if your going to boost the engine supercharge or turbo go with the 426. If your going to try all motor go with the 440. Then i was told anything over 620 lift the drive ability of the car is going to be compromised. My question is how much lift is just right and when is it to much? it's not a daily driver but i would like to know if i wanted to drive a long distance i wouldn't have any issue. Street/strip car. Not sure about dive ability, but more worried about reliability with spring, rockers, valve stem wear. The higher you go the steeper the angle....you don't need a ton a lift to make great power, it's more about the duration. Stick with .600 and under with a good set of PSI or PAC springs properly set up, and it should live a long long time. If you are wanting to get real radical, get with Andy at PWR, Dave at Modern Muscle, or Don at Arrington....Not much any of those guys haven't done.
