We lost one of the LX communities finest members yesterday. Jim (Meister) Edwards. He was the father of Mike Edwards or affectionately or better known as Junior on the boards. I was privileged to be on a 1st name basis with Jim for quite some time. He was definitely one of our pioneers. He was the 1st to run a 12 second run with a NA 5.7. He was always thinking about ways to go faster. Being an ex fighter pilot, Jim had no fear. His top speed runs are legendary, ask Ron. I was there the night he ran his 12.97 at SpeedWorld. I was frustrated that I couldn't break into the 11's, but had ran a 122 that night. Only 2 cars in the country had ran faster, a 123 and and a higher 122. One was supercharged and the other turbo'd. I didn't have a converter yet, and only was running a 100 shot and had ran a 12.0X. Jim could see my frustration. Took the time to tell me how great my feat was, and that the 11's would come soon enough, and said "I won't ever go that fast in a 1/4 mile", with a big grin. Mike and Jim threw a Cookout at Jim's house in 2008 that had quite a turnout. I asked Mike were Jim was, he said in the basement. So I went inside, went downstairs and had a nice visit with Jim for over an hour. He was drawing up new idea's on how to make his 300C faster. He wasn't feeling very good that day, but made me feel better that I could come into his inner sanctum and spend some time with him. God speed Jim, you will be dearly missed. Jim was only 67.
Yes Hal, Jim was most certainly everything you described and MORE... I will NEVER forget the times that Jim and I had talking and more so, the great speed runs through the I-8 Mountains. Not only did Jim like to go fast, he also liked to help others no matter what the situation, good or bad. After talking with Jim, one could not help but smile and feel good. Jim, I will ALWAYS be your wing man and will miss you tremendously. Rest In Peace good friend.
Terribile loss to the LX Community. Met him a few times and PM'd a lot. Greta guy.. May he find the peace that he did while he was running the backroads. A good soul. ..
Great thread Hal. Ron, after hearing the news yesterday i remembered that Jim was my first PM over at LX back in 2007, and that you told me to PM him when I posted something about suspension mods. He answered my PM with a plethora of knowledge and links on how to set my suspension up. I also did the "Meister" mod soon after that. That is where you cut a three sided window at each coilover in the trunk so you can adjust the rebound dampening. I was reading through quite a few of his threads last night and can see just how knowledgeable he was and how he had a great way with wit in his posts. RIP Jim
I went over to 300Cforums to look for PM's to and from Meister. Jim was the first to PM me over there and wanted to exchange phone numbers and was hoping I was going to make it to the San Diego M&G. That was January 12, 2006. We had a nice round of responses with me telling him what I was planning to do to my car. Didn't have any mods yet. He said he thought my plans where spot on. I've missed talking with Jim, and hadn't talked to him for quite some time. Shame on me. Knowing his health issues, I guess I didn't want to intrude.
