Another question. Whats the best rumor on exactly what Dodge means re: "functional hood scoop". Induction maybe or just for venting?

my guess is that it will be like the ones we have on our chargers...the scoops take air into the engine bay...but not to the intake...

anyone who has seen a challenger at SEMA or something know for sure?

    Just like Steve said...

The Chargers have a functional hood scoop that sends fresh air to cool the heads and headers.

I would assume that the Chally will have a ram air intake similar to the Pro Street Chally from last years SEMA...

Notice the scoops on the concept Chally?

if they keep the butterfly vents like on the concept that would be awesome.

hmmmm, this is something I have been wondering about as well. What draws my interest is a small little picture I have stumbled upon on the forums. I have attached this image to this post. I want to know if this is the proposed air intake system for the Challenger and if it seals against the hood for the air intakes.

If this is indeed the air intake, then custom hoods like the Shaker, T/A style would be simple designs to implement.

    I wonder, I wonder, I wonder.............

from what i was told by my tech who recently went through a training course with the chally, he said the scoops are fully functional to draw air into the intake. he said you can watch the butterflies on the hood open with the throttle. i have not seen it myself, just what my tech told me. we will see......

Yes, from everything I have heard as well, the butterfly valves are suppose to be staying and functional. What I want to know, is this image of the air cleaner assembly being used and if this meets up with the hood or not.

Yea, I have seen this, but that small image I posted is making me wonder. The place I found the image from was linked directly to the Dodge web site. So, are they changing the air intake on the production version of the Challenger, or are they going with the concept style? Guess we will find out next month.

either way would be performance oriented and different from the usual. I am going broke buying CAI's for every car i purchase not to mention the wifes logical comments that i have to rebut.

I like the small pic you put up! How often does any manufacturer duplicate everything on the concept, I think they made the concept intake the way thay did so the engine would be visible. the intake in the small pic makes a lot of sense, and will cost more too!

Looking at the concept more I doubt they would make that one. when it rains more water would get in the engine than air, there will have to be some type of ducting?

I like ribbing mustang guys about functional hood scoops, meaning most mustang scoops are cosmetic, but ours were the real deal. I'm wondering if the non-drag racing chally's will have one just to let air in and the drag racing ones will work with the air intake.
