So if my RPMs are low and im at a low speed and hit the gas I can build about 5lbs of boost however if im going faster or RPMs are higher and hit the gas I have no boost. All my pipes are connected and I cant find a leak anywhere. Any suggestions??
^ if the line going to the wga was cracked or has a hole it would overboost cause boost is what opens it
if your on PCM boost like goats said reset your PCM. Just disconnect your battery for bout 5 min and then give it a try
No you have that backwards. There is a spring and a diaphram. So behind the diaphram you have boost + spring pressure to hold it shut and build boost. So as long as the pressure behind the diaphram exceeds the pressure on the front side the gate stays shut and you build boost. If it does not the waste gate opens and you no longer spin the exhaust turbine. So if you left the WGA unplugged you should build roughly 5 psi.
I know when I was having issues building boost I unhooked my Vac line going to the #2 solenoid and WGA and overboosted up to 26lb. From what I understand is that is if you are on PCM Controlled Boost and the solenoid starts to fail you will only be able to build as much pressure as the wg spring. By unhooking the solenoid It bypassed the PCM Control and overboosted like crazy. Replaced my solenoid and am able to build boost again spiking to 23 and holding 20 to redline.
No aftermarket boost controller? My previous car acted the same way when the cheapo boost controller died...
< read under name ill bet you $100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 if you pull the line of the wga it will overboost to the moon
Lol...how about this: Your waste gate is opening for some reason when it should be closed....thereby allowing exhaust gas to head out to the atmosphere instead of spinning your turbo. Investigate the reason why, fix it, and you will have boost back
Wga are spring closed and not open,if it's stuck open than it's bad and needs replacement but the odds of a stock wga going bad is very very rare
I would like to replace the factory boost control system, since i am having boost trouble. How did you do it and what parts did you buy to do it. stage 1 pcm, agp wastegate, better air intake pipe, big intercooler with 3 inch exhaust. I am good up to 10 lbs, runs mint, but then flutters all the way up to 17. put new BOV and replaced spring in WG and it still is doing it, although it is coughing less with the new WG spring and getting up higher with lbs of boost.
Factory Boost controller is the PCM...so if you are looking to replace a boost controller, that's going to be an aftermarket piece.
