About a month ago I was driving on the freeway and noticed that my engine temp was at 230! Holy hell! When you've got a 170 tstat, that's hella hot!

Checked the codes and got a tstat code, so that's what I thought it was. And I knew I needed new antifreeze, so I changed the antifreeze (pain in the ASS job, btw) and swapped the 170* tstat with a 180* tstat.

She was still getting REALLY hot (only time the phrase "she's getting hot" is EVER a bad thing) so I assumed I screwed something up with the coolant flush. Had to top it off several times after refilling it. Pretty much resigned myself to having to take it in. But one last time I checked the codes and saw a new one :) "Fan control circuit 2"

So I checked fuses, found a bad high-speed fuse so I checked the fan and whuddayaknow... seized up SOLID. So I jumped on Rock Auto, found a new assembly (both fans, shroud, mounting, etc) and they had the Heavy Duty version for $20 more so that's what I got.

Saturday the part shows up and Sunday I work up the motivation to tear into a several hour project to save myself a trip to the mechanic and a $450 bill.

Easy job!! I have NEVER done this before (but I am pretty mechanically inclined) and I had the old fans out, the wiring harness swapped over, new fans in, new fuse in, and put a new 170* tstat in, AND cleaned up in less than 2 hours!

Let it idle in the driveway for 20 minutes and it never got over 185  On the freeway to work today, she was averaging about 175!

See the ring is split? Yeah, that's supposed to be round. :dumb:

nice!!! i know one of my overheating problems is my fans since all 3 relays are now dead and had to buy pass the relays to get both to work again. the other i've still been wondering is either the water pump (again) or maybe a block in the block.
