The corporate ax fell on me this morning. (UPDATE!!)

    9-5 job let me go.

Very sad. I loved the job and the co-workers there. Good working atmosphere and solid company. Or so I thought. Record profits for the company as a whole... unbelievable.

Will take a few days to see what I want to do. Open to suggestions for sure....
At least both cars are paid off in full but if I don't find anything soon, the SRT may have to go.:(

Time to start networking, that's how Marc got a job after getting laid off last year. Sure the new job isn't as good as the old one, less pay, crappier benefits, but its getting us through.

Good luck, sounds like you're already got working on a plan.

everytime a door closes more open in front of you. keep your head up and be proactive and like said before start networking and you'll find something soon. Change happens nothing we can do about it other then adapting.

Yup, seems to be going around. My wife Tee was on medical leave, released from the doctor Aug 24th and when she went back to work they told he they had fired her Aug 23th ~ Really SUX, as she is the only one of US that can work.
Best of luck on finding something!!!

good luck man, the company i work for (Siemens) is also going to begin layoffs in January for all their technical and application divisions. 475 people are to be axed out of 2500 or so.....

we also recorded record profits but supposedly they are "re-positioning" themselves.

    its def happening to everyone.

"re-positioning" as in "moving labor to Mexico".

Big companies like to trim the fat so to speak and then re-hire once and if business picks up enough to justify it. Same thing happened to Marc at Avaya. He was the heart of his team, but for whatever reason they figured a bunch of Argentinians and Indians could replace him, nevermind the turnover rates or the fact that Marc spent most of his days answering the same stupid questions from said Argentinians (who liked to look at naked girls on Facebook) and Indians (who would argue with him about an answer they asked for). Now he works for an Avaya business partner on high maintenance West Coast customers. Its a living.

lol, they actually called it "redistribution of global assets".

    Bangalore to be specific.

basically they think that they can pay some indian guy 100 a week instead of 2k per week in the US. i honestly think theyre retarded and will def lose customers...but hey, im only lower middle management.

sad thing is i feel bad for all the people who are just trying to "get in" to the tech industry. with all the cheap entry level type labor going overseas they are basically shit out of luck at this point.

    Thanks guys.
Yeah I guess my branch got greedy and hired more sales staff than they needed. When that didn't work as fast as they wanted, they just cut me (four years with company) rather than new sales person (3 months with company but 30 years sales experience...she's like 65ish).

thats nuts, usually they term the employees who are likely to retire earlier than another.

    Update

I went to an interview/lunch meeting with the manager of another company's local branch yesterday afternoon. It went great and this afternoon I received an email with a job offer!
Very exciting news and I accepted the offer. I'm scheduled to start toward the end of next week! :)

More money than at previous job
    Commission on top of salary
    More vacation/paid time off
Company phone and laptop (didn't have laptop at previous job)
Car allowance which I had before as well
100% health insurance coverage, with dental and life insurance after 90 days (previous company's plan was garbage)
    401k after one year

    A  is in order!!

Thanks all for the well-wishes. I'm so glad I found something so quickly!!
