Well, I hate to say it, I've been a smoker for...um...not sure...around dayum...at least 9 yrs now. Picked it up from my wife. Tried it one day and figured..fuck it!!! Stupid ass!!!! Was so against it growing up...always athletic, mainly soccer, cross country, marathons, multiple k's... Got injured, started smoking and been wanting to quit for years... Tried chantix, some crazy shit, depression and some crazy ass vivid dreams... But, it made me not want to even hear the word, let alone see it. Didn't last long, because my wife was still smoking... You know... Won't do the patch, scares me for some reason.

Well, my wife and I just had our 8 yr anniversary on the 25th and have been together since '93, so we figure stop bull shitting and let's just do it. Plus we got two boys, 4 and the other will be 7 in sept. Getting tired of hiding it, drying out my hands from trying to wash the smell off and the list goes on...

    So, Day 1 sucked!!!! Don't come near me...don't talk to me...just don't....
Day 2, is a little bit better... Just fighting the cravings... In the morning, after eating, bored, etc....
Day 3, hanging in there. Not coughing as much... Drinking more water and also stopped drinking pepsi, at least 1 liter a day... My body is already starting to feel cleaner... Don't smell it on me anymore. Finding out that I have to much f'n time on my hands. So, my wife and I are constantly motivating each other, pep talks, etc... I think we'll get pass this, just nervous the next time I pick up a drink... They go hand and hand with each other...

Keep y'all posted on progress... Thanks for letting me vent a little... wish me luck...

Btw, been tempted to go shifting through the ash tray a few times... I should have cleaned them out before we started...

Good luck with it. My mom quit after Madeline came. Got a low dose prescription for Buspar (anti-anxiety) to help and after the first 28 days off cigarettes, weaned off the med. Its great that the missus is quitting too. Plus its summer, so a good time to deep clean the house, your clothes, your car, the vents, everything and make your space/home a smoke-free zone.

Don't like meds. It was hard for my doctor to get me to try chantix.

We never smoked in the house or in the cars... Well sometimes I did in the charger. Since having the kids, we won't smoke near or around them. They don't know we did. Other than the smell on the clothes. But, I have OCD, so I always took things to the extreme....

My ride always looks better than new... You should see my house... I'm no joke. My wife hasn't had to lift one finger since day one...serious. She is spoiled. And the houses kept getting bigger..lol. Current is just over 4k living, so with two boys, keeps me busy...

    Thanks!

    Good luck!

Why are you afraid of the patch? I work for a company that makes them, and it cracks me up the number of employees that go outside to take a smoke break after being on the manufacturing line for hours.

I know how it all works. Just don't like the idea of it going into my blood stream like that. Just one of those things. You should see my brother-in law, he'll have two f'n patches on, then light up a Newport 100, always to the filter or saving his checks. Keep telling him to stop that shit. He knows the risk, but still does it. Crazy!!!!!

Just saying air things out. I dated smokers, grew up around smokers. That crap gets in your skin, your hair, anything you touch. Its insidious and you don't know how bad it is until you've been away from it for a while. So use it as an excuse to get a hair cut or change diets or whatever works to take your mind off of it. Maybe steer clear of smoke-break friends or whatever little rituals you had for smoking (every smoker has them). And the buspar isn't like the chantix. It just takes the edge off the anxiety that the cigarettes help with, but its easier to quit and not as gnarly as chantix. But everyone's got their own thing. It'll be hell, but the more you stick with it and help your wife and she helps you, the better. Or you could go spend a winter in Cheyenne with my mom, where its too damn cold to smoke. ;)

All windows are always open when it's not too hot. We love the fresh air. I remember how the smell was, when it was just my wife smoking. Thanks for the advice!

Kick ass Jimmy. Hang in there brotha, you can do it. It is mind over matter at this point, and you do matter. :)

I have been threatening to quite for years but I keep going back to my parents teaching me to NEVER be a quitter. lol

Seriously though, I have cut way back and am almost ready to make the plunge in quitting. I need to be at 100% to do it.

    Great job buddy.

Rofl!!! I used to live by that line as well. I use to smoke 1 pack of newports per day. Six months ago cut down to 1/2 pack and three months ago cut down to 5 per day, but the last few weeks was back to at least 1/2 pack.
Chantix use to make me feel like I didn't need it, so I've been maintaining that mentality. I also tried to space my squares by having one every two hrs to three to four... Finding that I just have to keep myself busy and keep motivating myself for the result.

Ron, you can do it bratha!!!

    GO PATS!!!!!

Last Feb 2nd I switched to electronic cigarettes. Never missed a thing. Bit of a learning curve and getting all the right stuff and everything but it's great.

A few people have told me about it and I see it around. Just couldn't take it seriously. I should be fine with cold turkey.
    Thanks bro!

It's serious. The ones they sell in the mall kiosks are junk. Naturally you need the modded stuff. Definitely better to quit cold turkey 'cause e-cigs aren't really intended for quitting at all. They're an alternative for getting your nicotine fix along with all the other habit stuff but without all the carcinogens (no, nicotine is not a carcinogen).

pretty soon, cig's will be illegal and they'll be pushing that alternative cig. a lot of towns here don't even allow you to smoke on the streets or anywhere outside. i think it's getting ridiculous, but pretty soon i'll be for it.. lol i'm trying to keep clear of anything with nicotine.

Jimmy, Dave's problem is that he is forgetful and took the Electric Cigs in the bath tub one night. The next evening when he finally came to, he never wanted a cigarette again. lol

My goal is to have quit smoking by the time we move. And that day is quickly approaching.

Seriously, it's extremely hard to quit, I've tried but guess I wasn't serious enough. With all my heath problems I know this would be a smart thing to do. Sounds like an excuse; but they have taken so much away from me, not being able to ever work again, need something to relieve stress!

Best of luck. I was 3 packs a day in 1979, quit cold turkey at my 9 year old daughters request. She said, "I don't want you to die from cancer Daddy, please quit." I did.

Keep it up. Hang in there. You can dew it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The irony of this is that she smokes, and has since she was 18. She will be 40 in December.
