If it was rings I would expect it to smoke all the time or smoke at the beginning of the run and not at the end. He only started smoking more than half the way through 3rd gear. If it was rings they should have been sealing up by then (or completely broken which didn't happen).

I'm thinking it could be heat related. Climbs really fast through the quarter. valves hanging open, head gasket, something like that?

I agree.... I had some rings fail on a FRI motor and it always smoked on start up.... just burned off the oil in the chamber....

If it was oil leaking I would most likely burn all the time or at the beginning

That comment was made before I watched the vid. My second post on that subject is what I think is happening. Like I said in that post, my VC gasket was pinched upon installation and causing a few drops of oil every once in a while.

Funny you say that Kyle...the last time we put the valve covers back on one gasket finally had it....wouldn't crush enough to seal. It does appear though that the smoke comes from the tailpipes so it seems to be happening internally.

Hard to believe but in 16 passes, I never once looked at my wideband A/F gauge, which pisses me off bad. I kept reminding myself to do it...then "shit" as I was picking up my slip and heading back to the pits. The gauge is like 4 eyelashes off of where I look out my windshield...DOH!

I just really wanted to confirm that my car would run where it was supposed to based on HP levels and gearing. I think it does. I can guarantee it draws a LOT of attention from other racers in an area where you just don't see many modified LC/LX's. I spent most of my time in the pits talking to people who drove over on their track buggies and owned a Challenger or whatever. I made sure and gave them Cam's personal cell number and told them to call between midnight and 6am ;)

If I can run a 12.5 quarter at ~110 mph in 6500 DA consistently, I will be totally happy.

You don't need to look at your gauge if you ... push the LOG button ... you know, like when you buckle your helmet or roll your window up (so you don't get distracted or forget if you put off doing it till you get to the tree).

That DA is nice. lol ABQ starts at 5500 and as the heat progresses, we normally race on DA's of between 7K - 8K. A few times it can reach 9K +. lol
