Hey folks. Working on my brother's new 300C SRT8 and attempting to install a Bwoody 3.5" CAI. The mount bracket for the pipe that goes through the hole in the fender is WAY off. Plus, the bracket doesn't sit flat as there's a bend/flange on the hole in the fender. On top of that (!), the bracket's size hits the *other* bend on the other side of the fender brace. The closest I can get the holes to line up puts the mounting screw at about a 45 deg. angle, and it's not even close to being long enough. Is this normal with the 300C's? I've only heard good things about Bwoody's stuff, and now I look like the dildo because I sent my brother there. Suggestions welcome. Pics attached.
Dremel has already seen action (notice the blue tape...heh heh). The CAI is in, but.....IF we got the one we ordered (small filter; retain OEM brake duct), it's way off. Disappointing.
I'm thinking you got a tube for the Jeep? Did you call BWoody? Email? Try to contact Mike in any way shape or form?
It's for his 300C. I'm pretty sure Mike's not up at midnight EST. My bro's driving back to VA (where there are no tools) tomorrow evening. We had one shot at this, and it didn't work. We're going to pick up a different K&N tomorrow (JEGS)...one that fits w/the OEM brake duct, then reinstall the brake duct. As of right now, the pipe mount bracket is *under* the hole in the frame (where there's no flange). That's the only way it fits. Never thought one bolt and 5 ring clamps could be so damn difficult.
Duh, I know he has a 300. I was saying that "Maybe" the pipe for the Jeep was accidentally shipped to you. You know, by mistake. And yea, I asked if you attempted to contact BWoody first, before you decided to SLAM them on the forums. Are you following me here? Seems to me that one should at least give a vendor the attempt at correcting an issue???
Sorry if it came across as slamming. The part was ordered (paid for), shipped, and did not fit. I was asking if any other 300C owners had similar issues, or if this is a one-time problem. There was no time for the vendor to fix the problem. The car was only here for a very limited amount of time. What should have been a 30-minute install turned into 3.5 hours of jacking with this thing. There's only one bolt for the CAI. Either it's correct, or it's not. There's no middle ground. And since the hole for that bolt is welded in place, there's no 'fix'. If I was slamming the vendor, I would have corrected the plethroa of typos and grammar errors in the single page/single picture instruction sheet. You know me better than that, Ron (I hope). The Jeep CAI is about $50 cheaper and doesn't list a "retain OEM brake duct" option (which is printed on the packing slip), so....I doubt it's a mix-up. In truth, I'm bummed. I've only heard kickass things about Bwoody's stuff, but the first time I put my hands on a piece of their gear.....THIS happens.
Comes down to contact the vendor before complaining.....like Legmaker said it might be a part mixup.....but Kevan you should have taken this up with the vendor before publically condemning them..
Holy crap! Where was I condemning anyone!?!?!?!? Please re-read my initial post. My brother does not have the tools nor the expertise to do the install himself, so we had to do it while he was here (approx. 16 hours, over a weekend). I'm not pissed off or raving mad. I've come to expect this from SRT vehicle aftermarket parts. Of the 14 SRT-10 & 8 projects I've done this year, only ONE has arrived as ordered and installed correctly. I'm used to it by now. It's over now and my brother has the new (correct size) K&N on the way. I explained to him, in great detail, how to re-install his brake duct once the new filter goes on. Let's hope he listened to my instructions.
Your entire post (to include the title) is an innuendo of talking smack towards the vendor. Even your last post is an innuendo.
Com'on guys, don't be "that" forum...Kev was just asking (reassuring himself) to see if anyone else had an issue, that maybe HE was doing something wrong. He explained why the vendor wasn't contacted, he further explained what prompted the post. I didn't get a bash from this at all.
