OK so if any of you are like me and are anal sometimes, you keep all of your timeslips from your trips to the track. I still have timeslips from running my 2001 Mustang GT at the track from 2002. Just so happens that I wanted to look at the progression of mods compared to ET and MPH since I purchased the Magnum new on July 1, 2006 with two miles on the odometer. Do this yourselves and post results and I am sure that you will look back like "WOW!!" So I will start: (I just used all the best from the times to the track in the past four years with mods listed. Comments listed are thoughts at the time that I can recall after studying the timeslips on the bowl the night of each run.) 10/21/2006 - cool Fall day at Atlanta Dragway (Commerce) Mods: JBA catback, highflow cats, GSM CAI 13.788 @ 102.59 with a 2.180 60' How are these guys getting low 13's stock? Damn stationwagon!!! 04/06/2007 - cool Spring night at Atlanta Dragway Mods: same as above with TSB for reprogrammed shift performed by Dodge 13.44 @105.55 with a 2.163 60' Better but not as good as some stock. SH@TTTTTT!!! 11/18/2007 - cool Fall day at Sillver Dollar Raceway (Perry,GA) Mods: added PPP Road Warrior cam, Kooks longtube headers, BWoody coated intake, cut JBA mufflers out/replaced with Borla XR1 race mufflers, B&G computer with base tune for the cam, stock t-stat??? (forgot to change it) 13.046 @ 108.68 with a 2.129 60' Tune sucks, car running rich but it feels strong. Maybe I should have gotten a Charger? Need to get the tune right and change the t-stat out to a lower temp too. Maybe I should have risked divorce and just gotten the LS2 Vette. Andy @ PPP told me that I should have gone with the Track Warrior cam since the Road Warrior is the smallest cam in their lineup. Should have just bit the bullet and did heads and cam so I could have gone bigger for the price that I paid for the long tubes. Wasted damn $700 on a B&G computer and still need a custom tune. SH@TTTTTTTTTTT!!!!! 11/22/2008 - cool Fall day at Silver Dollar Mods: same as above with a CMR tune, PPP 25% UD pulley, Volant CAI and a Jet 180 t-stat 12.541 @ 112.43 with a 1.987 60' That's more like it. Suprised the hell out of a bunch of folks. "That's one hell of a grocery getter!" one guy says. I want more but not sure of the next step. 11/08/2009 - cool Fall day at Atlanta Dragway Mods: same as above with the addition of a MOPAR TCM and a change back to the stock CAI because I rubbed a damn hole in the Volant CAI tube from being too close to the top accessory pulley. 12.790 @ 114.50 with a 2.116 60' Not the best ET of the day which was a 12.731 but the MPH was what really impressed me. The damn MOPAR TCM really works in locking up the torque converter earlier. I really wanted to go back to SDR because I really think that the car can do a 12.3...SH@TTTTT!!!!! Track prep at Atlanta Dragway sucks. All runs above done on either the stock Goodyear F1s the first two trips listed above, then Toyo Proxes thereafter. So there you go...my timeslip odyssey over four years and still wondering what exactly the car can do. All runs were pretty consistent followed up by back to back runs within a tenth of the best time posted so I know the results are solid. I do believe that the car is capable of a sub 12.5 consistently the way that it sits in my driveway today (mods listed in my sig) but i won't be going to the track again until probably November 2010. The only mod that I am strongly considering is an 85MM Throttle body which MAY give me 5-7 horsepower and torque. The car is solidly in the mid twelves so all in all I am happy with it being a 4300 pound stationwagon (4500 pounds with me in it) for chrissake. I can beat most but may lose to a few which at the end of the day is alright with me. If I ever break down and get the serious mod bug again, I am going for a set of heads, hotter cam, and a torque converter. A daily driver in the low 12's to high 11's might not be so bad. "What the hell is under the hood of that station wagon!!!!!!!" Take a trip with me guys and girls and see if this same exercise does not put a smile on your face as it did mine. Thanks for indulging me on this.... Pretty cool, Reese. I am like you. I have ALL of my timeslips.... somewhere. haha I have slips from SoCal, Phoenix (Firebird and Speedworld), Albuquerque, and Silver Dollar Raceway. Yup, that's right, I said SDR. haha Shin Dig 07 baby. All were with my old Paxton S/C. Ran 11.8x's or slower at all tracks. Of course that was also without tuning. Fun times for sure. I wish my money tree would start growing again so I can track the car with my 426 and Techco twin screw... Oh well.
Yeah it's nice to sit back and think back how far down the road that you've been with mods and track time. I never go to the track "just 'cause" anymore. It's always after doing some sort of mod to gauge the result. It's not scientific by any means but the track is all most of us have as a "test environment". Funny that you responded Ron because I had a vision of a 440 with a Kenne Bell just yesterday. I would love to have a Charger to do this; keeping the Mag of course. I have a thought in my mind on the whole look and build of the car but my dreams and my wallet don't reside in the same state, no less the same room. Dreams, dreams..... I bet your Charger is nasty though Ron... I just thought that this would take a bunch of folks back and make their day.
