My neighbor has narrowed down his next large SUV purchase (many previous Tahoes). He has it to a Nissan Armada or the Toyota Sequoia, which one and why?

I have a better history with Nissan/Datsun, but if it were me, I'd be voting other. Because I'm brand prejudiced. *cough* Ram or Dakota *cough*

I would not want either ....The Sequoia is based off the rather unreliable Tundra and the Armada is based off of the unreliable Titan :erm:

To get a good reliable full size SUV from either of those brands you have to step up to the very expensive Toyota Land Cruiser, with Nissan you are out of luck.

In my opinion the best truck based SUV's from those two brands are the Xterra and the 4Runner. Of those two I would pick the Tacoma based 4Runner which has been redesigned this year with a more powerful 280hp V-6 and a V-8 option in the works. The 4Runner is bigger than the current Jeep Grand Cherokee, the most reliable in its class and unstoppable over any terrain. Essentially it is a modern early 90's Land Cruiser.0-60 time is the low 7's with an 8000lb towing capacity. If you are looking for family transportation in that size category you can't beat the Rav 4, it pulls .84 on the Skidpad and I hit a 14.4 1/4 mile in my Mom's Rav 4 Limited. Its funny that one of Toyota's most performance capable cars is a crossover. It has an optional third row, gadgets galore, Haldex AWD and a 4500lb towing capacity (It is a unit body like the Camry). Both the 4Runner and the Rav4 have hill start assist, downhill assist, E-locking diffs. The more offroad oriented 4Runner has also has an optional TRD supercharger kit (If you like killing SRT-8's).

FWIW, my buddy bought an Armada a year or so ago and raves about it regularly. His wife mainly drives it, and he a 2010 crew cab Chevy 5.3L, he says the Nissan is a much better built vehicle, and kicks the trucks ass in power and economy...If I had to choose between the two choices, I'd still buy a SRT-8 Jeep. :)

I heard last year that the Nissan was going to be discontinued and was going to be replaced by a re-badged Ram.

I had a Tundra 5.7, and I loved it except for the ride on segmented concrete highways, which they have fixed on newer models.

The nissan has a weak rearendand smaller brakes.

Tundra all the way, no contest.
