I have that you can run 18 psi max on the stock pcm. So to do that can i just get a boost controller and adjust it that way or should i get a wga. Before i turn the boost up I plan to do the fuel pump rewire so I should be safe for AFR levels right?
18.3psi is the max due to there being a 1.5bar map sensor. Get a WGA you won't need a boost controller. I have used s2, FM and AGP waste gate actuators and for DD I would recommend FM. Also a stage 1 ecu saves you alot of trouble as well. Assuming you have an 04-05 if you stay at or below 18 psi you will be fine with your AFR's as is. If you are going to start screwing with the boost I would recommend that you get a scan gauge and wideband to keep an eye on everything. If you don't have it already I would recommend exhaust as well. IMHO pump rewire is a garbage mod you are better off setting it up right and when necessary upgrading the injectors, and fuel pump.
Good point I would get a DSP and a tune before just a straight wga. Still get a scan gauge and wideband though.
So basically you can use a dsp and control the boost that way? I have never tuned any of my cars and have no idea what i would be doing. Are there maps i can download and just plug and play? I would need a 91 octance.
As long as you aren't to heavily modded the DSP should be plug and play. You can use the canned tune that comes with it, plus you have the added ability to adjust the tune as you mod the car. If you are already some what modded, then the DSP will require a custom tune to keep from blowing up your engine...from my experience.
No im not really modded. All i have done is a carback exhaust and an AEM intake. So i will be safe then?
^ What he said...as long as you haven't modified the boost, like aftermarket WGA's and such. You shouldn't need a custom tune...yet.
Get rid of the CBE. A full exhaust will make a huge difference since that down pipe is so restrictive. Not to whore too much but I have a 3" thermal R&D I am gonna sell if you are interested.
