And that is why I just ordered a Valentine V1. I have a trip to Fallon, NV coming in may....there is a LOT of straight, flat, EMPTY highway miles coming!

Why is a V1 better than an Escort? Or is it?

    Dunno....

But every report or article I've ever read places the V1 at the top or near the top of the pack. So I figured...eh,...what the hell.

Besides...since it isn't one you can pick up at your local radio shack, it might be worth a shot.

The Escort 9500 and V1 are both at the top of the list. My buddy has a V1 and I have an Escort and we both pick up all the same signals at the same distance. The main difference between the two is that the V1 tells you how many signals its picking up and where they're coming from, the 9500 has a GPS memory in it to ignore known false alarms (doors, speed signs by schools, building security systems, etc.) So basically pick whichever "extra" you like.

ummm, if you'd rtfm you could set your 9500 in expert mode and see each signal, type, and strength that it's picking up at one time in the display. I think it will display 6? or 8? of them. if you get the 9500i and have redlight cams and stuff you can download their (frequently updated?) database that ties in with the GPS to get reminded when approaching one of those. 9500 also has variable sensitivity that automatically adjust with your speed. Goes between "city" up to "highway" depending on how fast you're going.

I *really* like the GPS "lockout" feature. All those known false signals and speed displays around town. Nice thing is that it remembers the signal's signature so if you've locked out a speed display and a cop decides to park under it with radar you still get an alert from the cop's radar even though you've locked out the your-speed-is signal.

Sorry Dave. I still have my Escort 8500 without all the bells and whistles.
