Stayed up lastnight and watched the A&E documentary on the 2 week (now 3 week) special forces testing to become a Green Beret. One thing I noticed was a lack of core strength from alot of the guys but that all might change... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_new_basic_training I personally think adding it to the regimen would be great but still keep some of the other tried and true methods in place. Good luck new recruits.
Make the run portion of the P.T. test 1 mile....Except make it so you have to run it in 7 minutes or less...maybe 6 Thats a real test of cardio ability, the whole 2 mile shit in 16:00 just kills your knees.
I agree with the changes, but I also disagree... Adding the twisting and turning is awesome, however doing away with the 5 mile run (haha I still don't believe it) is DUMB! The 5 mile run builds stamina and endurance. If they delete this, it will only hurt the soldiers in the long run. I like that they are adding to the Hand to Hand combat by getting the trainings to react to all conditions to use whatever is at hand as a killing tool, but taking the Bayonet Training out of the mix is another bad move. This has got to be a product of the Clinton era when his administration added "Stress" cards to Basic Training. Yup, that's right, "Stress" Cards. If a trainee felt overwhelmed, they could use this "Stress" card twice a day. It allowed the trainee a 10 - 20 minute break. WTF? lol Off my soap box now!
I would hate to be in combat situation with a guy who still carries his stress card "the bad guys are shooting at me can i take 10 to think about what im going to do" I remember my marines hated me when we went on runs. i kept telling them "were almost half way there" and kept on going on the run, but it helped them realize that the missions not over untill its over.
Weak sauce, we had to run the 2 miles in 10 min or less to make my CC team, lettered all 4 years (smoking adds at least a full minute to your time-LOL)
there's a lot of crap in there lol, here's a direct link to how to conduct it and what the standards are http://www.mccscp.com/home/Files/pdf/recreation/Fitness_Centers/Introduction_to_the_CFT_No_Print.pdf
damm that is alot of crap!! not bad. those in admin sections would hate it and those in grunt work will think its a joke. ha ha
