Now I have to wait for it to show up in the mail!!! I'm dripping with anticipation over here.... What can I expect to gain with the predator on a stock car?? Only has a CAI.
You will enjoy it... If will shift much better and you may get better gas milage... If I knew that you wanted one... I would have sold you my used one... LOL...
Jeff - you will love the drive-ability. Do you have a 180 degree thermostat? If you don't, go buy one for ten bucks and adjust your fan settings when you get the Pred. I don't think Ralph will even disagree with me that it will benefit you greatly with the Pred. Ron gave me a good go by for the settings. Hopefully he will chime in on the specs for it. You are going to love it though!!
Damn....could have saved some coin there.... But...I'm gonna get a free beanie from RDP...can you top that?? Good call on the t-stat. I'll grab one this week.
I think somewhere between 20-40hp? That's not the best part though. It's how it drives/feels. Worth every penny right there. Load the 91CAI tune, go to modify parameters and enable "raised shift points". That's it, good to go. If and when you get a 180 t-stat you'll want to set your fans to match. (...and shhh, but Ron's got his fans set a bit tight) Don't forget, a Jet 180 = 180, a Valucraft/Motorad 180 = 185.
So the uber-sluggish shifting between first and second will go away?? Your right...that would be worth the 290 bucks.
should... it's been so long I can't remember how it feels stock. When I go in for service I pull into the dealer lot, set it to stock, drop it off. When I pick it up I put the tune back in before I leave the lot.
So I've been hearing about raising shift points, and also about leaving the shift points alone and raising shift firmness.... What would you guys recommend?? One thing I know for sure, even stock, the shifts are FIRM at WOT!!!!
You can't raise the shift firmness on a SRT8. It's already there. That one is only for the 5.7s. Pretty much the same thing on the raised shift points. The 5.7, stock, pretty much shifts right at the peak of the power curve. The SRT8s keep making power past the stock shift points. So you want to go with the raised shift points. (haha, so just where have you been hearing these things?)
I forgot so I had to look. 5.7's stock shift point is about 5500 and power drops off around 5600? 6.1's stock shift point is about 6150. Raise shift points will put it at ~6350 and it's still pulling. When you go to set raised shift points the Predator will throw up a warning to the effect of "raising the shift points will automatically raise the rev limiter, do you want to proceed?". Say "Yes". I think they bump the rev limiter to 6400? maybe 6450 or 6500?.
The other charger site. I don't go there or post there often, but when I have a tech-ish question, I post on both sites. The more info the better, but since I don't trust most of the garbage on such a diverse site, I always question those answers here for some legit info... So I've heard...I can't wait till it gets here:bigwink: Ok..firmness is already there. Thats good. Now, I know that it will raise the top end shift points, but what will this thing do for low end?? you know, daily driving stuff??
It will feel noticeably better. More of what you thought it should after you got used to the awesomeness of driving it when you first got it It will shift and drive better for "daily driving" stuff too. due to the reduction and tweaking of torque management around the shifts. I hope he didn't give you a tracking number, you'll probably wear out the ups site.
You going to start right in Fri afternoon? I'm golfing most of Saturday (unless we get rained out) but outside of that I just sit around the house, watch the kids and do laundry for the weekend... PM for cell number if you want someone to talk to.
When you raise shift points, it says, YOU have to raise rev limiter, it doesn't do it automatically. I set my limit to 7k, i have the valve train for it though. For some reason, i could never get my shift points to raise via the regular menu through modify tune. It never gave me a "failed" prompt, but it would still shift about 6200...I had to go through the Quick Adjust menu, and the first time i tried, it said "Raised Shift Points Failed"...the next time, the hour glass came up and remained for a good 5 second count...I was like Oh shit, now what...then it had me cycle the key off/on, and it actually worked. Now it shifts at about 6500+. Just spend some time playing with it, you'll learn quickly.
Maybe they changed it? 'cause mine does it automatically. Maybe it's if you have already raised the rev limiter *before* you raise shift points. (although I'm running version 9r11). You don't want to go over 6700 on the stock engine with the stock springs.
