Question: In Ron's case how do you know if the transmission is slipping IF the tires are all ways spinning (aka No Traction)

    Why not?

I once had an annoying tire noise that got louder as I went faster on my '70 Cutlass. I accelerated until the noise became more pronounced and next thing you know I was watching one of the wheels fly past me at 50 MPH while my car skidding to a stop. No more guess work :)

Saw that happen with a truck tire when I was driving. 4 lane highway, everybody stopped at a red light after a long stretch. OLD couple in an old car in the right lane up front. Big ole truck tire (complete with wheel) come ripping down the shoulder at about 35mph. Hits the big banner style sign just before the intersection, goes straight up in the air about 50' and comes straight down about 3' off their right front fender and bounces sideways into the corn field. Light turns green and the left lane takes off. I was about 3 trucks back and when I went by they were both sitting there rigid still staring straight ahead and the old guy was white knuckling the steering wheel. it was just like in the cartoons.

I was lucky too the tire/wheel didn't hit anybody going 50MPH. Guy who installed my cam forgot to put all the lugnuts on or tighten them. I thought it was an engine issue until the wheel went flying by me.

Wish I had a video or picture of it. I remember sparks flying everywhere as I skidded to a stop.

Eddie, had my transmission slip on me yesterday for the first time. I'v never had DR's on it before now. It happened from a 50 mph roll in D, torque converter flashed (3600), tires stuck, and tranny slipped, then caught, then slipped... it was obvious, and a really bad feeling.

If I autostick it into the gear i want and hit it, it holds...suggestion?
I can't afford a fully built SHR transmission right now.

Well sh!t Kyle, that blows. Totally positive it was the transmission and not some one wheel action loading and unloading? Man, you don't need a transmission issue...

In fact, I just built myself a trans dipstick tonight at work by modifying a different one.

I dunno, it was something different that i've never felt, but i've made alot of changes recently...I checked my fluid when i got to where i was going, it was overfilled about a half quart or so...I went to my shop and drained some fluid out to get it perfected, went for another drive, same result, but not AS bad. Something is definitely slipping, motor is screaming like a pissed off gorilla, but it's not pulling like it should. When checking and draining the fluid, it looked and smelled fine. Dunno, it might be the tires loading and unloading like you said, can't hear them over the exhaust. I hope you're right.

Going to the track for the first time today, hopefully i wont be trailoring it back home.

BTW...i use a big ass white zip tie for fluid check, marked full mark when to temp (170), at 72.5mm with paint pen. Works great, and virtually free. I'll take a pic later.
