That isn't very comforting Erik, thanks for the info though.

My tuners timing asked for 25 degrees as base spark, knock sensors say otherwise.

Problem: Had a tuning session scheduled last Saturday with Wes at TPS in Galvez, his CMR software crapped out. He said every time he would try and upload a tune, it would corrupt. We were able to get the AFR to 12.7-12.4 for the entire pull with the hand held, but I'm getting about 10+ degrees being pulled up top...from like 5200 RPM to shift, tried pulling timing with tuner and base spark would never change, nor did the knock retard. Tried adding timing in (max 10 degrees) nothing changed in the base spark nor the knock retard. My hand held Predator must be bonk, it wouldn't adjust the timing tables at all...So with the CMR messed up and my Predator messed up, i got nothing accomplished except for the AFR.

With 21 degrees as base spark and actual at around 19-21,I was hitting about 450rwhp at about 5k with a torque line (not curve) of around 400. PLenty of room for improvement, but I need to fix my knock retard issue first.

Possible Solutions: TPS get his sofware working, get back on the dyno and see if it's false knock by adjusting the sensors and timing. We have to rule that out before anything else. If it is false knock, from tuning issues, problem solved. If not, I'll look at the mechanical end. It's not coming from fueling. His Mustang dyno monitors both banks, and they are +/- ~3%.

not bad at all especially on a mustang dyno. Hopefully it's false knock and prob is. If all else fails ( and sounds like it has lol ) throw a little race gas in it and see if goes away.
Can't wait to see the final results so keep us posted

I'll send you a tune and you won't have to worry about your knock sensors. It'll have your piston skirts flaring like the corner of Chris's lip after playing Ron's skin flute. Need pics? (of the pistons, that is) Trust me, I ran it for 6k miles and it will WAKE UP your combustion chamber.

lol...I just saw your cute lil' siggy-sig. I'll show her when she gets home from school and see what wonderful tidbit of wisdom springs forth from her bountiful mouth 'o knowledge.

Done that already, put in some 104 a few weeks ago...nothing changed...it's not fueling, but thanks.

Yes it was, and was in what he called "Dynojet mode" for that number...just to put a number on it...didn't really care yet, mainly trying to get the tune right.

I'm thinking false knock from no crank bushing for the converter, plan is to desensitive the sensors in that area and watch the torque and power curve, if it still drops off, we know it's real, if it picks up, we know it's false.

sounds like your on the right path. At least now you've tried race gas you know it's false knock it's just finding the source lol

    Right on...
I've been through ALL of my pics i took during and after rebuild, and NONE are of the rear of the crank shaft. I can't remember if the crank pilot bushing was in there, but considering where, and how long ago i got the rotating assembly, i don't think it's in there. I've run this rotating assembly and converter for about 18,000 miles total. I've always had this issue since day one, with lots of changes trying to fix it. I've just recently learned the importance of that bushing, which is why I didn't pay attention when i built the motor. Guess I'll have to drop the tranny and see. :(
I think i'll drop the inspection plate and have a look, just to see what i can see.

I was in your same boat after my 2nd stroker motor went in except that I wasn't chasing knock retard...I happen to find ONE pic when I had set the flywheel on the crank and taken a pic of that. The bushing isn't very thick. Notice the shiny area where the bushing has a chamfer...my torque converter obviously rides there, or has ridden there at some point.

Based on where you are at now I sure hope you get an eyeball in there and find that yours isn't there...at least then you have a possible solution.

Thanks for the pic and good wishes!
I have a stock crank here, so I do know what it looks like. I've been told you can't tell if it's installed by just looking once engine is installed. i haven't pulled the inspection plate yet to see, but maybe i'll be able to feel it. If not, i'll order the crank bushing, drop the tranny and hope i'm not doing all that work for nothing. I'm about 95% sure it isn't in there.

BTW, your flexplate is on backwards! ;)

Sure hope this solves it. I'll be pulling the tranny tomorrow.

Good news, no bushing was in there, but installed now.
Brought it to the dealer, didn't feel like laying on my back for 3 hours and fighting it on stands...Much easier with a lift. While there, had the tranny serviced. Good to go. When I go pick it up, i'll run a log and see if the kr is still present or not. Probably won't need to log to tell though, you can hear and feel the timing it was pulling up top, hard not to feel 10 degrees.

Nah, sorry man, can't make it. My job and kids demand otherwise. Throw up some pics for me though when yall get back. And when you see Maureen, slap her on the ass and tell her Dookie says hi! Ron loves that shit. :)
