Hello all, Need to replace the tires on my CSRT8...I am running Toyo Proxes 4 all around, 275-40-20...I do not want to break the bank, but looking for solid tire...happy with the Toyos, no compliants...just want to see what is out there... Likely be off-loading the CSRT8 this summer when the CTS-V coupe hits the streets (do plan on picking one up)...but for the meantime, need some news tires... Likely stay at the 275-40-20, and was actually thinking about going with 285-30-20... Any thoughts/suggestions/comments... Much appreciated Scott
hahaha, the first time through I read that as "Likely be off-roading the CSRT8 this summer" and immediately thought "wow, I don't know that anyone has ever tried that yet". lol there was a pic from 2 or 3 years ago that came to mind. sorry for the hi-jack but I couldn't get past that. had to come back and read it again. I don't think you'll get near the mileage out of the Vreds?
Well... yes but "bread and butter"? true they are probably the most used alternative. Here's my cut. Our problem is the scarcity of 20" performance tires for a heavy vehicle. The great majority of people are/were looking for launch improvement. The remaining minority are/were looking for road track improvement. Parallel concern for a growing majority as we got more owners is mileage and there's always cost. The cars came with either RSA's or F1's. RSA's - Decent tire. Many had problems with launch traction. Sort of barely OK in the wet. moderately expensive and OK mileage (~18K). F1's - Better tire. Little better launch and better road track performance. Worse in the wet. OK mileage and ridiculously over priced. Toyos Proxes 4s - a bit less performance than the RSA's, slightly less ride comfort, (relatively) great mileage and very reasonably price. Also have a nice looking tread pattern. Nitto Invos - advertised as a super tire. Nice ride. Good performance that probably falls in between the RSA's and the F1's. Great in the wet. Maybe better launch, maybe better road track (but soft in the sidewall department). OK priced and better mileage. Nice looking tread. Vredesteins - Pretty much have to mail order. Finally a tire for the road track guys but not exactly in the exotic performance class. Launch is ok but these tires have a threshold around 50* outside where there is a noticeable difference in stick. Very kewl tread. Moderate to low mileage and very reasonably priced. Nitto NT05s - IMHO top of the heap. Top road track performance for a streetable tire, great launch short of DRs. They look like DRs. Excellent ride comfort and reasonably priced. All the goodness comes with a price of mileage. These start out with a tread depth of 7/32 (compared with the more expected 10/32). I wouldn't expect much more than 16K of city driving. (these have to be the quietest of all too) That's kind of my cut.
Afternoon all, Thanks for everyones suggestion, after some research I decided to go with the Nitto Invo, 275-40-20 all around...tire has some great reviews...although I will likely sell the CSRT8 later this summer/fall, still love the CSRT8 and felt guilty putting on cheap tires...LOL Thanks again. OP, unfortunately I think you picked the 5th or 6th best tire available. NT-05 or Vred's would be #1 / #2 F1's or Toyo's would be #3 / #4 Nitto Invo's / Falken 452's #5 / #6 Just my opinion.
All, I hear ya...I will give reviews when I get them installed. I plan on selling the CSRT8 later this year, looking at picking up the new Caddy CTS-V Coupe...no real reason for the swap from Toyo to Nittos....
No, no, I meant cvp33's ratings. I would have been inclined to group the Invo's more with the F1's and the Toyos more with the Falken's. I was just curious why he rated the Toyos generally above the Invos.
We had two forum members (other forum) switch from Invo's to Toyo's and stated the Toyo's were better. Of that list I've not personally run NT-05's or Invo's, but I've had everything else on the car. I'm up to 113,000 miles on 2 SRT8's which as you all know means a lot of tire replacing. My personal favorite is the Vred's, with the Toyo's being a close second. I'd love to try the NT-05's as I have yet to read a bad review of them.
The Invo's advertising made them sound like a super tire and they're pretty cool looking. Then not too many people tried them and weren't overly impressed with them. I never figured out if they weren't impressed compared to the advertising and they were still in the top range of tires or if they were just sort of average. I think everybody agreed they excelled in the rain which I think was their main design goal, comfy ride and pretty quiet. Can't remember how the mileage went.
In the rain it seems to be pretty close with the Vred's, Toyo's and INVO's. Mileage also seems to be similar with 14,000 to 18,000 being the range. But at the limit handling the same order applies with the Vred's being the best. That was of course until the NT-05's came along.
