    Hey guys,
Some of you know im a computer dork and always looking for something new...So I found this and have been playing with it for a bit. Its free of spyware and shit so dont stress. Once installed you can setup a folder on your pc and share it out over the net. It supports linux, mac and pcs. I have it running on 3 machines between my house and office and its actually really nice. Rather fast considering its free. If you setup from my link you will get an extra 250mb of storage allowing you to have 2.25gb free.

The one thing I really like is you can setup folders inside of the shared folder and share them by invite only. So you can one folder for car pics shared to your car friends and baby pics for the wife's friends ;)

Also if you create a folder inside of the photos premade folder you can right click and get a link to send people so they can browse just the pics :)

Give it a try and let me know what you all think :)

Nice find John. Any bandwidth limitations? My photobucket account keeps running out of bandwidth every month. I was thinking I might "serve" (probably not the right word) my pics from my home computer this way.

ooo, ooo, I have a question.

I'm using Acronis True Image Home 2010. I do image backups but not the sector by sector.
I want to do full disk encryption with something like Securedoc.
I want to use a single password for login and the disk.

    Can this be done?

    Dave,
I havent personally done that but I have heard of it being done. I have also heard its expensive ;)

    Adam,
I havent seen any limits yet. I uploaded 3gb of stuff yesterday and its available to both the other machines within an hour. One was faster cause it was local and the other was at work. Hell the best part is once its in your dropbox you can turn off the machine :) Hell im watching one of the movies i uploaded directly from the dropbox!

Well, I already use Acronis True Image. The heavy duty disk encryption products like SecureDoc are more enterprise type of solutions and cost up around $150. Not bad if you have every detail, password, account number, and personal information of your whole life, and family's life, and other people's on your laptop. or even on disk at home. With a fully encrypted disk you don't have to worry about it getting stolen, or wiping it when you throw it away or if the court siezes it with a court order. You're the only one in control of it. set it and forget it. The trick is making it useable and backing it up without compromising the security.

Acronis does the backup I want. More or less an image in that you can restore an entire disk same as a disk copy while still providing individual file access. SecureDoc does the encryption I want and (I think) you don't have to run through a 10 step procedure every time you turn the PC on.

I just don't know if they work together or if they work together well or if I've thought of everything. Naturally you want the backup to be encrypted (doesn't have to be the same encryption as the disk) and you want to be able to restore a disk image.

Sigh... I guess I'll have to tinker. but I know it's going to be a pain-in-the-butt sized effort.

i would not use this service. you would be opening yourself up to possible identity theft by a small, untested startup company. the service more than likely uses a non personal specified aes key which basically means they determine what your security handling should be instead of the actual data owner.

Well Steve since they arent asking for any personal info and you can use a gmail account to set it up Im not sure where you are worried about identity theft. That being said would I put anything on it that has personal info no. But to each his own :) I love the fact that for something like pics and little stuff shared between friends its a nice little setup.

the identity theft would come from direct access to your machine, not the info that you used to setup the account. i know why you like it bud, i just wouldnt recommend it to anyone who wants to keep their personal info their own.

in essence this service puts your personal machine on the cloud (internet), whereas you would just be another number while surfing, this service makes it a lot easier for someone to attack you. if you like the ease of sharing, i would use filesanywhere or any other secure web storage service. this takes the data off your machine and allows it still to be shared with your friends and family. it takes your personal network or machine off the chopping block.
