    sorry!!

Get this... when I wrote this... someone was breaking into my car... NO KIDDING!!!
They broke in around 3:45PM to 4:15PM

I got lucky... just a broken window!!

Well get this.. 3:30PM some people broke into a total of 4 cars and one was mine... in the DAYTIME!!!

I turn off my alarm and it chirps 3 times. That means it went off. I look at my remote control and yup it shows it went off. Glass breakage!!! I walk up to the car and the driver side is good.. the pass side has one broken window!! I look inside and NOTHING is taken... They tried the stereo but my sirens that are mounted inside the door panels are screaming at them and they leave... so a chipped dash bezel and broken window is all...

A new window is 270 bucks installed... but I was a bit upset with that and told them that they can do it cheaper since I have been using them for 22 years!!! So BAM!!! 165 installed at 8AM tomorrow morning!!

Tonight the remote control and my Sig 9MM will be very close tonight!

    Hey Albert,
I heard you have quite the loud alarm system. What kind of alarm system do you have?

That hurts, I had a car that was broken into a few years ago, a car I didn´t even care about and I know what that felt like...
    My Maggie, I´d be gutted!

I have a Ungo/Clarion Alarm but I had two sirens installed into the doors... nest to the speaker grills... so there is no way to rip them out or cut the wires... so it is a little loud inside...

I will be adding two more louder sirens inside... I am not using the speakers in the dashboard... so I will be adding one per side... :) :) so once it goes off... the sound will be bouncing off the window which will make it 3db louder and then the other sirens in the doors going off... it will not be silent inside the car...

Dang, I might want to do something like that. Something loud so that I can hear it from the 3rd floor. Plus, the underground garage will amplify the sound.

Also the Ungo alarm has a two-way remote control... the range is close to 1/2 mile...

That is something that you might want as well... the remote control went off to inform me that the alarm is going off... but I was in the shower and didn't hear it...

Yes, go with the 2-way pager/remote. Mine is a Clifford, 900mhz spread with a 1 mile range. Clifford/Viper/etc. are all Direct Electronics now.

Adding inside sirens is an excellent idea too. (make sure they're also on a backup battery). You need ones of a decibel level and frequency that actually cause pain. It's disorienting and the crooks can't hear anything outside the car either -- like the cops coming. Not an ideal theft situation for the crooks.

The 1 mile remote range is in an open field naturally, but you're most always in range when shopping, restaurant, etc. Beep or vibrate with zoned alarms so you can see what sensor triggered on the remote display.

Here's a bit of explanation of the sensors I'd recommend:'

First off, long range, 2-way remote with an lcd display showing what sensor triggered and if it was a stage 1 or stage 2 (some sensors are 2-stage, some are not). My remote has a number of arming options.
    1 button for everything armed.
2 button sequence for everything armed, stage 2 only.
Other 2 button sequence for selectively arming zones (I think I have 5? I only use 2)

    Impact - 2 stage
Slight bump like thumping the B pillar with the heel of your palm or a kids ball bouncing up against the car will trigger the warning chirps.
A more substantial impact will trigger the full alarm.

    Tilt - digital, 2-stage
A digital tilt sensor will calibrate itself when the alarm is armed. It has the same sensitivity or degree of movement to trigger whether you park on the level or on a hill. I have mine set so if the car changes attitude by a degree or two (not enough to get a wheel off the ground) it triggers the warning chirp. A bit more (still not enough to get a wheel off the ground) it will trigger the full alarm. A car whizzing by closely when it's parked on the street will rock it enough to trigger the warning.

    Glass break.
They often use a spring loaded punch or something like a BB gun. The impact is not enough to trigger the impact sensor but is focused enough to shatter tempered glass. Glass makes a distinctive frequency sound when it breaks. This picks that up.

    Peripheral sensor (motion) - 2-stage
I have mine set to roughly 1 foot outside the car for the warn stage and a couple of inches inside the doors for the full alarm. The field is a hemisphere. Sensor is located in the center floor console at the top of the cubby under the lid. Rain running down the windows will trigger the warning so it's convenient to arm in stage 2 only when it's raining. The peripheral is nice for parking in case you have to park where other's might get near the car. Soccer mom come up to car with bags of shopping and triggers the warning chirp before she flings her door into your car. Also if somehow you actually forget to roll up a window.

GPS (a bit pricey and requires service subscription)
While this gives you the ability to track the location of your car (web, email, txt msgs, voice) and will notify on unauthorized movement, this is also nice since it basically makes the range on your remote limitless.
Also adds a couple of features like low battery, battey disconnect, etc. notification.

If the alarm system triggers (full alarm) you get notified. You configure whether notifications come email, txt msg, or voice phone number. You can activate/deactivate a number of functions via the web, or phone.

For example, it takes a good bit of juice to run all those sensors all the time. If you leave your car for a week without a battery tender on it you will probably drain the battery. You could park the car and go on vacation. You could get a txt msg that your batter is low and then over the phone you could activate your remote starter.
The GPS unit has it's own internal backup battery (might power it for 30 min?). Unauthorized movement is if the car's location changes with the alarm armed. You would get notified that it's location actually changed and you could call the cops and LoJack to activate your lojack -- you do have lojack right? Then you could watch where it goes on the web for a while.

The system works with GPS and a cell phone link to the unit so there are limitations. The unit gets location information from GPS. Communications between the unit and system are cellular.

Naturally nothing is bullet proof but you would have a very good probability of at least knowing something happened if and when it happened and maybe you could do something.
