We are confirmed for the 1st Annual Modern Street Hemi Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida (http://www.bradentonmotorsports.com/info.html ) on 16 Feb 2010, the Tuesday after the Daytona 500. This event is brought to you by Benfotiamine.Net, Inc. (my company) and sponsored by Paramount Performance Products and Billet Technology. I expect a couple of more sponsors to sign on. This is a "club rental" track event limited to Modern Street Hemis who sign up via this forum or through me directly. The track will promote this event via flyers at the gate the month preceding and on their web site. Who is eligible? Any racer with a 5.7 or 6.1 based GEN III Hemi in their registered, insured & tagged street vehicle. Driver Fees are $125 in advance or $140 cash at the gate. All crew or spectators are $12 cash at the gate. Children 12 and under enter for free. Effective today, January 11, 2010, you may begin making advance payments via: PayPal to: [email protected] Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express by calling my company toll free at: 888-493-8014 Talk to me or Jack or leave a voicemail and call back number. When you pay, let us know your LXForums user name, plus your true name and address, etc. so we can create a "paid in advance list" for use at the gate on the 16th of February. Refunds will be available due to last minute change of plans, but I'll need to subtract a $15 processing fee for the refund. Remember, the gate accepts cash only. The first 50 cars to sign up will be able to race. We will also have a waiting list and many on that list should be able to race given the inevitable last minute issues that crop up for various drivers who have signed up but can't make it. Gates open at 9 a.m. for roll-in and setup. The track opens at 11:00 a.m. for practice, test & tune or grudge matches. Qualifications in the four classes below will begin at 1:00 p.m. and last approximately 2 hours. Eliminations will begin 30 minutes after qualifications end. Any leftover or in-between time may be devoted to informal heads up matches or additional practice. The track will be prepped and sprayed down the whole 1/4 mile and the staff has promised to keep the track sticky for us all day. The track will close at 7:00 p.m., at which time we will organize and begin our awards presentations. The sponsors have put together classes for a point system and intend for this to be the kickoff event of a 4-5 event series ending with ATCO in November of next year. Fifteen points will be awarded for 1st, ten points for 2nd & 5 points for 3rd place in each of four classes: 5.7 NA (staging lanes 1 & 2, East Side) 6.1 NA (staging lanes 3 & 4, East Side) Stroker NA (staging lanes 5 & 6, East Side) Unlimited (staging lanes 10 & 11, West Side) (this is for any car with nitrous or forced induction) NA cars should pit on the East side of the track and use the East Side staging lanes. Unlimited cars will pit on the West Side of the track and use the West Side staging lanes. (See the map, below.) Also, because there will be many cars and a broad range of ET's in the Unlimited class, there will be recognition and prizes for those who finish 4th, 5th or 6th in that class during eliminations. Although we have discussed having more classes, we have decided against it because we want to keep this somewhat simple and if we don't draw the line here there is no place to draw the line without getting into 16 or so classes, etc. Bottom line: have fun in the NA classes without power adders, but if you want to go big, well, go big. If you don't want to go to the bleeding edge but still want to run some spray or other power adder, then we hope you'll still have fun competing against the "big dawgs" and also having lots of runs for practice or grudge matches. Nitrous setups may run both N/A and Unlimited if they want to remove bottles for N/A and deal with the hustle required to qualify and run eliminations in two classes. Series points will also be awarded for attending (1 point) and running a personal best (3 points). Final series point totals will be calculated using a driver's best 4 results out of five events. Informal prize pools between interested parties will not be discouraged. You could have prizes for the top three timeslips for any class you want and decide whether to include RT's (reaction times) or not in the comparisons. This is not a bad idea and wouldn't conflict with the formal qualifications or eliminations. When you sign up, please declare what class(es) you intend to compete in. There will be vendor/sponsor prizes and/or gift certificates awarded for podium finishes and Paramount Performance Products will award gift certificates for driver's who run Paramount products, display the Paramount decal on their car and set a new PB. The theme of this series will be to provide a venue and encouragement for the racers in our community to continue to push the envelope with aftermarket speed development. Our thinking is that as LX vehicles age, more of us will shed the burden of car payments and the vehicles themselves will be less expensive to acquire--leaving some budget for speed mods, right? Another important feature of this event is that some generous common sense is being applied to the tech requirements. Acknowledging that our platforms are heavy, safe and typically daily drivers, the track is allowing a ".5 second grace" to the familiar 11.5 and 10.0 tech benchmarks. If you hope to run sub-11 seconds, please have car/driver tech'd to 10.00 per the NHRA rules. If you won't be running sub-11 seconds, have car/driver tech'd to 11.5. The track has 100, 110 & 112 octane race gas available (pumps), compressed air available, a food concession and we are working on getting the N2O vendor there, perhaps later in the afternoon. My crew chief will probably bring his N2O fill station (125 Lbs. usable) for any necessary fills earlier in the day, and I think FixerDave is going to bring a fill station also, but nitrous cars should come prepared with full bottle(s). If you want to secure your spot early, sign up by posting to this thread and please indicate your competition class. This will be the 1st stop on my 5 event series: Bradenton, Fl Virginia Motorsports Park (previously at zMax) LX & Beyond MIR (Maryland) ATCO to finish up the year Pretty damn exciting season coming up! Bill
Scott: it's not "your paying attention," it's "you be payin' attention." I mean, come on, watch your grammar, OK?
And to see Mr. Norm's Blown Challenger doing some dial-in, exhibition runs.... The current edition carries the fronts for 80 feet down the track and is headed towards the 8's. Definitely worth the price of admission.
