Any body else get "OIL SMELL" after WOT?

I don't really drive my Mag SRT all that hard much mainly because of where I live..... but when I take 'er out in the country and open 'er up at WOT, I have been getting an OIL type smell???? I see NO oil leaks of any kind... even pulled spash guard... NO signs of oil anywhere!!!
Oil level is FULL... I don't understand it!

Does this sound normal???

Mine is an 06, just turned 8000 miles Saturday and it's completed stock except for a K & N CAI and Billet Catch can! Do you think it may be coming from the CATCH CAN??? (No leaks around it either!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How strong a smell? In the cabin? Transmission? Power steering? definitely motor oil? And don't forget, just a couple of drops of oil can make a whole lot of smell.

 

It definately smells like motor oil and I smell ONLY after a WOT and gradually smell dissapates! It's kinda weird! Yes, I smell it in the cabin after the car is winding down! There could be oil somewhere where I just can see it, I suppose, maybe hitting exhaust and then boiling off???? I dunno!!!

 

i heart the smell of oil!! which makes me miss my car which always smelled like oil. LMFAO

 

Is your oil can vented? The Viper oil cans usually come with a miniture K&N filter that vents under the hood instead of the intake....the smell would get in my clothes....I replaced the filter with a hose running to my airbox...no more smell..

 

WOT throttle runs you say? I only smell tires after that. :ronlove:

Seriously though, no idea, especially since you have a catch can. How are the hoses on the can? Check to see if either has collapsed.

 

Us LX guys only use catch cans on the other side of the motor (no vent).

 

I'll check the catch can hoses tomorrow, but I have only about 800 miles or less since I installed the catch can! Easy cruising or in traffic stop and go... get NO smell at all! Thanks for the information!

 

You gotta remember that when you run the car a lot of places are getting a whole lot hotter than they do otherwise. Just a tiny little bit or coating of oil can accumulate in cracks and crevices over weeks or months and then when you go WOT for a bit it all cooks off at once. Might just be that.

 

What's in your catch can?

If it is more than condensation, then that might be the issue.

 

spend a day doing multiple wot runs and see if the car just needs to be broken in!! lol

i have seen your car, it looks like it just rolled off the assembly line!!! take it out and drive it like you stole it and see if you just need to burn off some of that excess assembly lube in the motor!! lol

We got two inches of rain here yesterday and I live on this stupid dirt (mud NOW), road so I won't be taken 'er out anytime soon! I'd have a "FIT" if I gotter' all that dirty! LOL
Looked again yesterday and still see nothing....

 

I have the gas smell in my car at WOT not oil burn smell. But I feel its because of no cats and running a little rich? I kind of have gotten use to it.

 

I get a smell, don't really think it is oil just maybe a tad rich???

 

06 with 8,000 miles.that is the problem rite there buddy.when the rain clears,find the nearest interstate an open her up.150-165mph if possible.

 

i seem to get a smell lately as well.......... more of the "human" variety...... tends to happen right after i go wot and the car starts sliding all over the place at 60mph.......oh: lol
