Well, we made the final payment on the Murano last week. Yesterday, the friggin' thing starts acting up. THE FIRST mechanical issue we've had with the vehicle, and it happens a week after its paid off.

Diagnosed as a bad throttle body. Dealer wants $500 for part/install. We need the vehicle (bro in law & fam coming to town on Monday). So, I told them to do it. WTF, right?!

Anyway, the dealer is saying 3 engine mounts are bad and need replacing. Parts/install for that? $1500. Is that fucking crazy? IMO it was so I told them to stand down on the motor mounts.

Any idea how much this job with parts and labor SHOULD cost at a reasonable place?

RALPH: You working on Nissan's yet?!?!

Additionally: there's carbon build up in/around the fuel injectors. Do the liquid fuel injector cleaners you see at 'store x' work?

From what I just read there are 4 mounts on them, all liquid filled. Look at the mounts themselves it almost looks like you have to remove the motor completely inorder to remove them.

Of course looking through google people are getting quotes in labor from 700-1500 for them...

Doesn't seem to be very nice of them

Another question would be this: If the damned things have been shot for awhile, and we haven't noticed them, why the hell should I get them fixed?!?! Are motor mounts (the liquid filled ones) a safety issue?

Eventually, yes? They can fail completely and your motor will start spinning in the engine bay and self destruct or fall out on the road :shok:. Probably taking significant portions of the front of the car with it...

More likely you'll break things in the driveline first. Think about one or two motor mounts coming loose. Everytime you put it under load the motor twists/lifts up a bit, sort of catty cornered. Can't be good on things. Although you could probably drive it quite a while like that before any sort of catastrophic failure. It will also start making a clunk or thump like when you get a bad U-joint on the driveshaft so the wife will quit driving it long before the really bad stuff happens.

    wracks07 just posted this:

From his "experiencing wierd thump in the rear at takeoff" thread. Get the picture?

and the quotes probably differ depending where you are lol....

motor mounts at a minimum take some effort to sawp out regardless of application i would imagine as at a minimum you have ot be able to lift the motor off (even if its just a little)....

and i wasnt necessarily asking ya momo just putting it out there haha....

    LOL

Well calculating some figures using KBB... the motor mount repair quote is 1/6th of the value of the vehicle. Probably not worth it, huh?!?!

Depends on the vehicle's value to you. My truck has been paid off for years, but I keep fixing it so that I don't have to pay another car payment each month. So its basically worth about $3k a year to me in non-car payment.
