Thanks everyone, it means a lot to us. We're not looking for pity or hand-outs, but the bucket-loads of support do help a LOT. Right now we're just trying to cope with this and get through it. Figure its a good time to get a lot of things done we've been putting off. I'm only going to update this during the work week, unless something comes up on the weekend. Friday I was too pooped to remember to post up that Marc's interview seems to have gone well. He was on the phone with the technical director for the entire company for just over an hour. He'll be hearing back this coming week as to how it went. The good thing about this position is he's not competing for it, and may be able to fill a need the company has. It may mean he has to work weekends and nights and fly up to Canada and other parts, but it looks to be a step up from what he's been doing too. Aside from that, we've got six months of company subsidized health insurance, and he's got three months of company-paid outplacement services. So we have a reasonable cushion for now. Just looking to probably move out of this apartment to something cheaper when the lease comes up in April and I'm working to be done with school by this time next year. As for my health thing, I've been wondering about my weight since I lost the baby weight. I managed to somehow lose an extra eleven pounds since before I was pregnant. Also, it seems like my insulin sensitivity is crazy high. So I'm checking my blood sugars more often than ever. Add to that it seems impossible to concentrate on anything and I forget stupid things like that the car in Back to the Future is a DELOREAN. I mean, I know I'm not a teenager any more, but I'm not supposed to suddenly turn senile when I'm in my early thirties either, right? Add to that the fact that all of a sudden my cholesterol is high and so's my blood pressure and I have to wonder if some or all of this isn't tied to the thing in my thyroid. But I'll have to wait to hear from the doctor to get some idea. If nothing else, treating the cyst may help resolve a lot of my health problems and I'll feel better. So trying to stay positive about that. Anyway, we're doing ok. Madeline's saying new words on almost a daily basis and chasing Marc and me around the apartment all the time. Like always, I'll keep y'all posted. -T
Today Marc had lunch with a long-time associate who has a small outfit based locally. He offered Marc a job, but the pay may not be so great because of the size of the operation. Marc will be back in touch with him next week. So at least we've got a fall-back now. Still waiting to hear back about Friday's interview and also he'll be making calls to follow up on his resume submissions. So right now, things are looking up-ish.
No news today. Marc left a message with one contact this morning and filed for unemployment. Dropping him off at BART at o'dark thirty tomorrow so he can go to his job placement seminar. He's going to call up another contact tomorrow as well. Got the COBRA package. Turns out between Obama and Avaya, we'll only owe a couple hundred a month for medical/dental/vision coverage like we had before for the next six months. After that its just $500 a month until July and then it goes back to $1300ish a month. This is in no way an endorsement of health care reform, just that its nice to get back some of the tons of tax money I used to pay every year. No word from my doctor. Going to call her on Thursday if I don't hear from her first. If nothing else, I have an appointment on Tuesday the 6th to see her, so I may just find out then. I registered for classes for next quarter. Two senior level courses, Systems Design & Analysis and Intermediate Query Design and Reports. Should be fun, or boring as Marc said. In other news, Marc's turning 38 tomorrow. So we're having a mini-date and going to see Zombieland on Saturday while his mom watches Madeline for a few hours.
Alright, Marc survived the three hours at the job placement service. Kind of sucks that its over $10 to take BART to Walnut Creek and the parking garage charges $10 for three hours. Upside is, Marc did get some ideas for tweaking and perking up his resume. Otherwise, today is his 38th birthday and we figure he's not getting any calls this week because its the end of the quarter and the fiscal year for some. So more follow up calls tomorrow and Friday and next week.
thats bullshit, hes in a business that supports other businesses. he has no way of knowing which companies run which fiscal periods. my last company ended in june, siemens ends in september. keep plugging away.
We are plugging away. Just no response to calls or emails the past two days. And at least Avaya and their business partners end the fiscal year in September and besides that, the end of September is the end of the quarter and everyone's got their knickers in a twist. Tomorrow morning, more follow up calls.
Looks like Marc may have another job offer. He's heading to San Jose next Thursday for a meeting/interview. :dance4: Thanks again for all the well wishes, prayers and mojo. Looks like it might be working. No call from the doctor so I figure I'm not dying anytime soon.
Marc's 3rd interview (first in-person) with the San Jose company is tomorrow. He got his hair cut today, pressed his pants/shirt, etc. In the meantime, doesn't look like the thing in my neck is cancerous. Doc said its just over a centimeter wide, so she'd be happy to biopsy it. There's no other indicators though, so we're holding off on biopsies until checking it for growth again in April. Also, I tweaked my resume and its ready for review. Tried to scrub all the irrelevant stuff, listed responsibilities in order of importance and included my completed coursework and plans to graduate in a year. So I'm ready to go with that if need be. I'll post up tomorrow about the interview. Thanks again for all the support and prayers, seems like its working.
Marc got the job offer. They're letting him think it over this weekend and he'll call back on Monday. We're not getting excited until the ink is dry, but its a big relief that there are people ready to hire him.
very nice now you have one less thing to worry about if he takes it congrats on the job its about time someone posted some good news about jobs
Marc got in touch with the San Jose company today. He'll be hearing something formal (terms/details) back from them next week when the appropriate folks return from a sales conference.
