Need advice - the temp on the car reaches 230 degrees for the first time ever I live in the midwest. I took it to the dealer for a check up and they suggested to change out both fans with the harness. Ok but at $950 buckaroos !! WOW -- Does anybody have any suggesting on buying elswhere cheaper???

    Thanks
    Ed

The dealer is sticking it to you.....those fans are less than $250 from what i remember.Correction....they are $150 for both fan motors.

230 is not completely out of range although that is really hot.

Stock, the high speed fan does not turn on until 220.
    Low speed 210
    High speed 220
    (I think).

What were the conditions when it hit 230? Idle, in town driving, 0 to 150mph WOT pull? Outside temp?

Have you checked to see if both fans are turning on? You might have to stand up by the front of the car to hear the low speed fan turn on. Get the car down around 203 to 205 or less and let it idle (a/c off) with it warm/hot outside. Set your EVIC display to the temp display (hold inner lower steering wheel buttons down at the same time for 8 seconds and arrow up/down to the right screen).
Let the car idle until the low speed fan comes on and run over to see the temp through the driver's window. Then wait until you hear the high speed fan come on. If the car goes over 220 without the high speed coming on then it could be just the high speed fan. If both fans turn on about where you expect them to and it still goes well over 220 then you might check for a stuck t-stat. Pretty much the fans either run or they don't.

Have you had the TSB for the bad coolant performed yet?

I'm interested in how well that works for you. That's an incredible price.

Damn, nice find...I've had to replace 2 high speed fans and blades, and 1 low speed and blade...the blade is what caused the failure on all of them. The rims cracked, and centrifigal force would cause the lip where the crack was to catch in the shroud and burn up the motor...I got tired of spending $120 a copy and reduced the block fuse to 30 amp last time...hoping if the blade rim broke and lodged again, it would blow the fuse and save the motor.

Don't forget to replace/check the relay. If you're relay goes, you may get only the low speed fan.

I just checked the fans again and this is what I saw - I turned on the a/c and the passenger fan motor turned on but not the drivers side - tare hey both suppose to turn on ?? Where is the fan relay located? I want to change the relay. I look at the manuel and all it gives me is fuses locaions.

    Dude -
On the radiator fan shroud - I see a relay mounted between the fan motors - What does this relay do? The driver side fan motor wont run and it's very easy to spin by hand. I bought a new relay and still wont run.

I'm not looking at my car right this minute, but I'm pretty sure that's a black wiring connector (weatherpack) and not a relay.

I can't remember... but I think it depends on the year? I think the relays are up there on the shroud on my 2006. I sort of remember they aren't located there on ... ummm... either earlier or maybe it was later cars?
