    Rick 0, Rotors 1....haha

Well, I got my new slotted rotors in last week and "attemped" to remove them in my parking spot outside my town home this afternoon. I removed the tire and the caliper and sure enough it was seized up. I took a "normal" hammer and started giving the back side of the rotor some light taps. No luck, I call Ralph and ask for advice. He says to spray some WD-40 or anti seize on the bolts and the center of the hub....contact points. I give that a whirl, bang for a while more and still no luck. I give Ralph a call again and ask where I should be hitting with the hammer. He corrects me and lets me know I should be hitting the front of the rotor around where I sprayed the anti seize. So I went at that for another half hour or so. I'm starting to feel bad because it's about 75 degrees out with a nice breeze and I know folks have their windows open. Anyways, I say fuck it and decide I'll take it to the navy auto hobby shop in the morning, put it on the lift, spray the hell out of all the hubs, and get a sledge to really put some umf into it. Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Sit down on the ground and kick square, from the side, on the front and then on the rear. The hammer probably does not have enough mass, plus you might ding the metal.

Rick please tell me you dont have the retaining washers still on? They would be on the stud and look like thin little washers that have teeth...

John, good talking to on the phone buddy! I look forward to doing some shooting with you at the range!

I do not have retaining washers on it.

FYI Folks: this thread was started because I did a search at ALL of my other forums....Modern Muscle, LX, Charger...and didn't find anything about removing seized rotors so I thought I start a thread in case others ran across the same problem.

if you did then that is why it would not come off. the park brake assemble holds to a small drum inside the rotor.

well now you have a project for tomorrow. block the opposing tire from the jack with a block of wood and release the park brake.

I hope that you were trying the rears. If it was the fronts, it doesn't matter if the parking brake is on or not.

Letting that WD-40 work in overnight won't hurt anything either.

(good thing you didn't get to the sledge hammer yet)

It's done. It took three hours. It took some trial and error, but I finally found the correct tools to use. I had a four lb sledge hammer and a foot long, quarter size diameter steel bar to use as a punch. After that I just had to whack the shit out of it 5 or 6 times between each lug and it came free. The caliper attachment bolts for the fronts were a pain in the ass too. I had to use a cheater bar and wedge my ass in the wheel well to get any leverage. I sprayed some WD40 on the areas it was seized up and inside of the rotor areas that contact the hub. When I got it put back together I sprayed some brake cleaner on the calipers and drove out to the proving grounds and did a proper bed in. It sure is nice to have my good ol stock performance brakes back. I felt like I had the posi quiets back on for the past month. Overall, good learning experience and it will be much easier the second time.

Jees Rick, we're proud of you. It's like the first kid in the family to go to college, you're the only member of the EQ with the potential to become a wrench.

I give rick all the credit in the world... Did it himself! He looked like he got done swimming in a port-a-potty when he stopped by, but the job was done and done right!

Looks like someone just needs to hit the gym instead of spending all of his time at driving schools and in front of the mirror!
