As some of you know I had my cam gear replaced with one provided by PPP to resolve the possible oil pump clearance issue. Oil pump was replaced as well under warranty from PPP. Anyway, here are the pictures showing what appears to be wear. I dont know what is normal so just posting what mine looked like after around 4,000 miles on the new motor. I forget if we put a new oil pump on when the new motor went in, could be my original with 29,000 miles on it. Ill ask Erik and Andy if they remember. (according to Stell, the pump pictured is the original pump with about 29,000 miles on it with around 4,000 of those miles being with the K-1 crank) Definetely not the sky is falling stuff I was expecting after what Stanko posted.
Well we didnt know of the possible clearance issue til after the motor was installed. I didnt want to take any chances and PPP was making it right, no point in not doing it.
What did the gear look like you took out of there? It looks to be chamfered if the one in your pic is it.
The one in the pic is stock John, The chamfered gear is around 3/16 Not all K1 cranks have this issue, Check it when building the engine if there is no clearance problems then your good...... When I build mine eventually? I'll leave the Chinese cranks where the belong? China.... LOL Isn't the K1 Crank an Eagle Crank? Before any one takes offense to my comments most Cranks built today are from China and machined here, Relax Boys LOL..... Now don't get the panties all bunched up.........OMG!!! LOL
We haven't checked mine yet. Mine came in with Steve's 1st one. Mine only has about 1000 miles on it. I still think Arrington should have checked all of these and provided a machined gear if neccessary. Mine hasn't ran since Springfest anyway.
True Dat!! The other thing is all off our engine components are relatively new and some problems will occur from time to time... Hope fully the people making these parts and building these engines will make everything as right as they can...
Lol...hard to see if the old one was chamfered when it is upside down. I was just curious how the original one looked Dan. Chamfered?
Do you have a picture of the crank? I just got the gear done but looking at it I don't know if it was nessesary. Granted I didn't slide it on to tell for sure What the worse thing that can happen if I modified the gear and it was not nessesary? Oh these build can be a major pain in the ass sometimes
