wait Steve u got a kb? What happened to the t trim? Either way man I am glad ur doing such a great build
so chris is your go fast "consultant"??? hahahaha he would be a good choice!!! scott seemed to help me do a good job at spending my money on my last project!!! hahahaha as for the s/c...why wait??? isn't 9:1 cr a bit low for a n/a car???? why not do the full install all at once??? just curious.
Well, Steve and his very patient girlfriend Jesse should be well on their way back to the great state of New York under the power of a bullet proof forged 6.1 shortblock. Let me just say that is one of the cleanest Chargers I have ever seen. I felt extremely guilty sweating all over it all weekend As many recall Steve bought the HHP/BES shortblock I pulled out of the Magnum over the winter. After much going back and forth Steve asked me to lower the compression as he wanted to build towards a max effort street/strip build. So...we contacted Josh/Bruce at HHP and had BES order a custom set of ROSS pistons that matched the weight of the existing set exactly so we could avoid a rebalance. The 6.1 was still in great shape with so few miles, so with the pistons in hand all that was needed was a new set of bolts/bearings/cylinder hone to fit each piston and of course hand filing the rings to take into account variance in each bore and the judicious amounts of boost we plan on running. Most will agree 9-10 psi on 10.3 to 1 compression and a diet of 93 octane isn't a problem but in my personal experience once you push it up to 12 psi you will need to start compromising the timing curve. That compromise typically comes at the cost of power. Now meth injection will help you recover quite a bit. But nothing adds power like a few more pounds of boost coupled with a proper timing curve. Case in point.... I am running 22 degrees of timing on 93 Octane with 14psi. Bottom line, you can typically build more power and have added flexibility when building power through boost. Steve and his girl were great, helping out big time Friday night. We got started a bit later than we wanted but quickly got back on schedule by having the motor out Friday night. I couldn't have done it without Steve lending a hand and Jesse letting him get dirty, sweaty and down right nasty in the heat/humidity we had this weekend. Long story short, I pulled an all-nighter Saturday and had it wrapped up by 5am Sunday as Steve/Jesse had to be out of Wash D.C. the afternoon. The car started right up and purred like a kitten, burned off all the assembly lube and burped its coolant like the content little monster that it is. Unfortunately the PCM wasn't too happy with the arrangement as it promptly returned a P0016 (crank sensor misalignment) that wouldn't go away. Hal wasn't happy with the differences in cam/crank sensor readings so it looks like it may need to get a cam relearn procedure (thanks for the advice Erik). Unfortunately we have no dealers that are open here on Sunday so Steve had to drive it back with the code. I will be giving AJ as call Monday morning to help set Steve up with a diagnosis/solution. With the install out of the way, nothing left but to break it in right, then proceed to bigger and better with the Vortech V3 T-trim, front mount intercooler and a custom fuel system....buwahahahahahaaaa (HemiC, wrenches his hands together at the potential of another 10 Second car on the prowl). Mike/Lafrad you ready to tune another beast? Enjoy Steve. Chris
