Hey I know we all do what we can for our pets but remember they totally rely on us for their well being and with 2 straight weeks of record 100 degree plus days here in Waco I thought I would share what I have been doing for my dogs Duke and Daisy (German Sheppard/Siberian Husky Mix). Went to Tractor Supply and bought a large black feeding bin that I fill with water and its larger enough for them to get in and splash around I check it morning and late afternoon, I also bought a smaller feed bucket that you normally would use to feed grain to horses with and fill it with water. I have found these are durable and dont retain alot of heat. So they basically have 2 sources of water. I also have 2 large floor fans that blow all day on them. I set the sprinkler system for their zone to come on at 2pm and let it run for about 5 minutes to give them another cool down. I take empty 2 Litre bottles and fill them with water, notch out a small hole on top of the cap/lid and insert a stick into the cap enough to where half is in the water and freeze the 2 Litre, once frozen break off the plastic and you know have a 2 Litre frozen pop cycle you can stick into the ground THEY TOTALLY LOVE IT. I just took these pics and its already 103 outside:future: For some reason they will not get into the pool which is good their hair would kill the filter **Just checked on them now both are passed out asleep, sorry guys I worry about them all day.
Nice! Glad you love your family. My golden retriever spends most of his time inside. Not to worry as outside temp is currently 61 degrees. When it does get "hot" here, thank goodness for the ac/heat pump!
Yeah they are totally outside dogs we have a poodle inside that runs the house he is King and we are his subjects-LOL well in his world thats how it seems.
Our two Dobermans get garaged at times... fans, water, the whole nine yards. San Diego (Eastern portion) can get warm... high 90s-low 100s during the height of summer. Heck, my place is only about 4 miles East of Rick's and its usually 5-10 degrees hotter! I can't ignore it... Can I ask... WTF is a husky doing living in TX? The poor SOB is probably cursing his/her ancestors for being captured and removed from the Arctic! LMAO!
Both our dogs are inside dogs and have a doggie door so they can go in and out at their leisure. hehe
We have an outside dog, a mutt, named Rusty that my wife rescued when some one came by her work and just through them out! We have him in a fenced lot with an awning and keep his bucket full of fresh water. He also has severl shade trees so I believe he's OK... but it is HOT out! Then we have our inside dog named Hank; he is 3/4 dashund and 1/4 Jack Russell. He's a trip!!! My wife's friend rescues dogs and has 15 now and gave Hank to us.
Dont worry about the pets here in NY, if anything they would DROWNED before they would overheat hahahaha.... i think the sun might ACTUALLY have come out for a change today...LET THE DOGS OUT!!!!!!!!
