    Fellas,

I need to pick up a diesel truck for our businesses, everytime I need to move something I either rent or borrow so now I need to get one. I am not looking for anything new...maybe a 06-07 Cummins Mega Cab. Those of you that have diesels...what do I need to look out for, and tips? Thanks!

Are you gonna be towing a lot of heavy loads? That is about the only reason to get a diesel. If you need the cargo capacity of the truck bed then a gas version would work fine and be cheaper. I would stay away from the 6.7 Cummins. With the new emission stuff they can have some issues and plug up the cats, from what I have read.

The transmissions in the 5.9 are not as good as the 6.7's. But they get the job done. About the only thing to watch out for on diesels is not to let them idle for extended amounts of time. The fuel pressure coming from the injectors can wash out the injector doing other damage. Such as washing out your cylinder wall and having to get your block replaced(worst case). Keeping the air filter clean is important to maintain engine power. Diesels suck in a lot of air.

TNVIPER is kinda correct. I just bought my work truck for a smoking deal. It is a 05 Cummins QC. And I am thinking of selling it. I might be willing to sell it if the price is right. It was a work truck so it does have some scratches and the passenger fender has some dents from me sideswiping a reflector pole. Interior looks real good. If you are interested I can post up some pics of it.

Yeah I need the diesel, going to be pulling. I like the interior of the 06+ but like both the 6.7 and 5.9.

Well, I'm a powerstroke dude through and through. I've had a total of 6 since 09 and have two now. The one and only Cummins I ever had was a total POS.

I've got an '06 3500, with the 5.9, and love it. It is also an automatic which I swore I'd never have for towing, but, after I drove one to florida, I really liked it, and bought one. The 5.9 responds extremely well to minor upgrades (exhaust, CAI, Superchips tuner)

I almost bought a new '08 3500 sxt single cab, but bought an '06 laramie quad cab with low miles, & saved mucho $.

I have gotten as much as 23mpg. on higway trips (empty trailer or small load), and as bad as 10 mpg (10000# load). I average about 19mpg mixed town and highway.(no load)

The 6.7 has been having some issues, but I think they have most of them ironed out. If you buy a 6.7 DO NOT let it sit and idle, and drive it like you stole it. They also recommend that you run them with the jake brake on about once a week.

There are several TSB's that should be performed to help with the sooting problem.

    I hope this helps.
