its hard to believe but after 6 months of emt school, 1.5 years of paramedic school 400+ hours of ride times and clinicals, its finally over.

today i received all of my paramedic certificates, acls card, pepp cert etc. it feels really weird to say its over and all i have to do is take the state test and ill be licensed. im so used to being the tag along student in the bright green shirt that it hasnt sunk in yet that ill never have to wear that ugly ass shirt again!

im really happy its all over. i had lost ambition the past semester and a half and even thought about switching major since i had all but made up my mind to go into LE instead. but im really happy i stuck to it and finished it, now i just have to make the choice of either going through with the fire rescue plan or pursuing my original dream of going LE and working my ass off to get into violent crimes investigations.

either way, im just glad i finished this and now have a very nice group of certs under my belt and have the choice between two great careers.

thanks. i really enjoyed the schooling, and i was surprised at how many skills and the amount of knowledge i got. my wife's sister is in her final year of med school right before her residency and i can honestly say when i sat with her and her school friends i was on par with most knowledge and had gotten tons more real life experience than them. its funny to talk about what youve done as a medic student and have people months away from being doctors cringe lol. most of them even admit that medics are as affective as them in acute settings, so that was an ego boost lol. although i feel this is a field i would never stop learning and i am sure even at retiring age i would still be learning.

im just to hung up on the detective thing to be able to make the step and go through fire college (medics and fire fighters are one in the same here), so im giving my self a little time to talk and think things over before choosing fire or police academy.

any advice from people working either in fire or LE is greatly appreciated, as i love both careers and would feel proud and honored to go either route.

    thanks for the props everyone.

I'm just happy my paramedic and SEAL medic training came back to me last weekend when a buddy of mine wrecked his motorcycle right behind me and I turned around and did a thorough trauma assessment that I felt confident that he was alright before having him jump in my car before the cops came! hehe

Congratz! :) I'm a lowly EMT-B ... but it was a great education to get. Tho, that said, it really woke me up to the HORRIBLE ways to die.

Tension PneumoThorax anyone? Pericardial tamponade? Nothing says dignity in death like your organs being crushed by your own fluids or dying because you're a gas bag. :)

Or the abject fear our instructors put into us while joking with each other in earshot about making students on clinicals do CPR on patients after their expiration date has arrived, just for the practice.

    IEEE!

I have mad respect for Medics. CRAZY 400+ hours of Clinical studies. CRAZY hours of medical studies. An EMT-B only needs to do a few months of textbook studies and 1-2 days of Clinical work, and that alone was pretty intense. It's also heart wrenching work. I grew up at a hospital (Santa Clara Valley Medical Center) and as an empathic person it was very difficult. My clinical at San Jose Peninsula was also very difficult emotionally. Gunshot wound, the 12 year old who was in a coma that was Life Flight'd to the hospital with a major head wound after crashing on his motocross bike, the Mexican who fell 12 feet and cracked his face open ... none of that even compared to the homeless full blown AIDS patient who was half way down the toilet bowl. The helplessness of being unable to help some of the patients, even with all the training in the world, is very difficult.

I'm glad you persevered in the face of losing your motivation. I'm glad that you'll be there for all the people you help going forward with your career! *respek knuckles* :stretcher:
