yeah, thats right. melted it. ill get pics up as soon as i had them. basically the cone is glued to the metal backplate (if thats what its called) that goes into the air tube. after about 20-30 mins of idling with the a/c on i smelled burning. go figure, the ONE time im not monitering my engine temps like a hawk this happens. i look over at my friend and say "you smell something burning?" and shes like yeah i do. popped the hood and there it was in all its glorty. the glue must have gotten too hot and melted. this is sort of good news as i was looking for an excuse to get a new one lol. engine temp was 212. seriously though, how can you build something that wont even withstand high operating temperatures? i think thats bs. ive been in traffic jams before where ive been up to about 205-206. i wonder at what exact temp did this happen.
That sucks markus, You got a t-stat in there? I can sit at idle for 2 hours and never get above 180*, Nevertheless you got a excuse now like you said!!
Sounds like its not opening up? Easy to ck though, Let her run form a cold start and watch the temp gauge, The t-stat should open at or around 180 and the coolant will be flowing thru the upper rad hose, If its not flowing the t-stat aint open. Also with the AC on your gonna run a higher temp, Try the test without he AC on, Also not sure what the temp is outside but if its 90-100 out your gonna run hotter as well. Personally Im running the 170 t-stat.
this happened last night. i let it cool off and said screw it, gotta get outta here anyway. after that, it ran at normal temps which for me is between 174-176 depending on the outside temp. i was worried about sucking something up into my engine. i told this girl "this is a great excuse to get a new intake, lets hope it doesnt turn into an excuse to get a stroker" lol
sux to hear markus!!! this is actually the second thing i have read in the past couple of days about melting intake filters!!! lol btw - you are now ready to step up to a carbon fiber hammer right???!!!! heheheehehe 180??? wtf???? even if the a/c is off, if i let my car sit for 2 hours running, i gaurantee it would be near 190!!!! lol yes, i have a 180 tstat that is working properly!! hahahaha i am obviously not as "cool" as you chris!!! dahahahahahahahahaha
Somethings not right with that tstat Markus. I'm running a jet 180 also and when the car is cold and is first started the tstat won't open until about 192-194 degrees then comes down do the lower 180's depending on outside temps. My car will never get into the 170's with this thermostat. Now with my old 180tstat that was throwing codes on me, it took forever to warmup and it struggled to get into the 180's. I'm thinking that your tstat is stuck partially open. I'd pull it out and get another one if I were you. Also...do you have your fan on temps set for the A/C on in your Pred? By the way...I'm going to order the JLT carbon fiber CAI this week. I'll sell ya my DUB for real cheap!!!!!hahahaha
Well...I haven't ordered anything yet. Do you have a price on these and availability. I'm assuming your still making the CF ones.
JLT FTW....that is one sweeeeet piece! If I didn't have the Vortech I would be sporting a CF JLT for sure...best CAI for the price and nicest Carbon Intake I have seen!!!
Either: 1) Your t-stat was sticking 2) Your fans aren't coming on . 2a) Fan turn-on temps are set there . 2b) Fans are broken (high speed) 3) You're low on coolant (unlikely) 210 is the stock, low speed fan turn-on temp. 219 is the stock, high speed fan turn-on temp. There are 3 different settings (Predator) for the HS and LS fans. I set them all the same so let's see if I can remember. 1) LS and HS fans at low vehicle speed (under 8 mph?) and AC off 2) LS and HS fans at any other vehicle speed (over 8 mph?) and AC off 3) LS and HS fans with AC on (doesn't matter what vehicle speed) Maybe you set 1) and 2) and left the AC fan adjustments at stock? In any event, the glue shouldn't deteriorate or melt at stock operating temps... It probably doesn't just melt at some temp in that range but it probably deteriorates over time with heat and then melts at that temp. Sort of the same thing and a major flaw ==> junk. 20 minutes with a partner is a MAJOR record for you. Momo will be jealous.
without doing a major hi-jack of markus' thread....... yes, they are available, yes they are still being made by me, and yes they are the best constructed cf intake on the market, made unlike ANYTHING being offered currently........ but what do i know, i've only been slinging carbon for about 17 years!!! lol back on topic..... markus, you need a new intake bro!! i see a cf hammer in your future brother!!! lol
Mark when you called me I could hear the rain pounding on the car bro, glad to see you made it home ok buddy.
ttt with a pic. tony, it was raining so hard i couldnt see my hand in front of me, lest i forget the lightning that struck danger close while i was on the phone. chris, dont worry about the threadjack, i was going to get the re cf intake, but eventually got tired of waiting for them to get in, pm me with prices pax, my dad has a jlt on his crustang, says he really like is. ive seen that thing and the filter is beastly quick, momo should be jealous, i havent heard from his arse in months. also, i dont have a predator, still working on a b&g tune. i know, i know: b&g? dub cai? im old school. scott, i havent forgotten what you said brother. once again, your infinite wisdom helps out
So, I guess you'd have no interest in buying mine then!hahahaha I know this is alittle off-topic, but it relates to the DUB CAI. Does anyone have any info as to whether they cause IAT temps to rise enough to start pulling timing?
