I know this is an older thread, but I forgot I was a member here and just saw this thread. Anyways, all the above is pretty much true. I made the mistake and went with a modular setup (SouthBend) about 6k miles ago. I am not going to diss the brand, but mine has started to slip fairly consistently and I have not even been to the track with the car yet. It had about 1,000 mile break-in period (more than what is recommended) and the install was done right. I am simply convinced that modular clutch setups are just junk, albeit many have good luck with them.

Thankfully mine still holds power till about 4.8k rpm, but I am not taking it high, despite my new DiabloSports custom tune, because of the horror stories about slipping the modular clutch too much and then shit coming out of the bellhousing and ruining the rest of the front end of the car.

Anyways, RealTune will be putting in an ACT Xtreme Street setup system (non-modular, of course) within the next few weeks along with some other goodies. The peace of mind of having a REAL clutch system, and actually being able to safely raise my rev limiter is worth the additional cost over a modular setup.

And like said above, too, a modular design is shitty. I realize it's convenient for swapping purposes but using 4 bolts to mate a clutch with the stock (and shitty, mind you) driveplate is a hack-job way of running a clutch system.

We have a real car with real power...we should also have a real clutch. Spend the extra few hundred dollars for a non-modular setup if you're making good power or going over the stock rev limiter.

Thanks for the bump! I am actually starting look at clutches again after the S3 install since I will probably be needing one... (74k on the stocker, hasn't slipped...yet)

I feel pretty set on getting an ACT clutch, which one would you guys recommend>?
350+whp Daily driver, mostly highway miles. No girlfriend so a harsh ride is fine. Performance over comfort. Want something to last quite a while. I don't launch the car at all. Just spirted driving ont he interstate with highway pulls. Looking to spend around $550... Any help would be great with my search.

ACT street clutch would work fine for you. great all around clutch. i use mine for autocross, road course, drag, off roading, daily driving and no problems. that clutch holds 470ftlbs tq

last time i dynoed i had 364 tq on the stock clutch with 80K and no slipage your stock clutch should still be fine for a while.

Mario's using the same clutch on his S3 with no problems either.

Same clutch I was recommended by Aaron, and it's the route I'm going.

Oh damn, thats good to know. Theres a dyno day at the end of April and I was afraid my stock clutch would slip on it. I guess its all on how you drive the car. So ACT street clutch with the the lightened flywheel and an OEM TOB? I say this because I hear the ACT TOB's cause problems..

Damn NEvin, what turbo are you running with 364 ft lbs!?

As for the comment about the TOB I hear way too many stories of people getting the ACT package and hearing a chatter noise. They end up putting a Mopar TOB and the issue goes away.

    So this one:

I noticed tonight on my way home from work. Iw as in 4th gear just cruisin going about 40-35. Staying at a constant speed, And the car started to buck back and forth, never did that before like the clutch was engaging and disengauging. Weird feeling.

A TOB does not cause chatter it's the springs and the gear backlash

The title says it comes w/ flywheel. Then when you read the description it says nothing about the flywheel just talks about coming with the disc/pressure plate and TOB.

So if I got that kit I would have to get the Flywheel? I am confused.

This one is the same part number on the revolutions website. But... it doesn't come with the flywheel???

I amr eady to buy a clutch setup but want to make sure it comes with everything.

Or do I just have the stock flywheel resurfaced?

if it says that it's coming with a flywheel then it should. I ordered my 6-puck from Rev Motorsports, and it included everything (clutch disk, pressure plate, flywheel, and TOB)

Maperformance FTW. Got it within two days after placing the order. Great customer service and fast shipping!

Now is there anything that needs to be changed while I have a shop do the clutch install? I hear to put a new 3rd gear shift fork... Also to not use the ACT TOB and to use a OEM one... Let me know.

    Thanks.
