Drove my car this morning and it ran perfectly. This afternoon went to go on a family outting and got everyone loaded in the car, went to put in reverse to back out of the driveway and it wouldn't shift out of park! Anyone have any ideas?
Already called them, they want me to tow the car there monday morning. I tried to search for more info on LXF, but nothing turned up. Anyone have a link?
Sounds like what Ron said happened. The Park Lock, thingy...lol...broke. Fix would be a replacement plastic from the dealer, or the Billet one. Let us know if you need anything.
Thanks for the link Ron! Believe me Kris, When ever I plan on buying anything for my car Im coming to BMC first!
OK. If it is the pink plastic thing that is broken, does he know that there is a release (also pink and plastic but on the other side of the shifter) that should allow him to put in gear until it gets fixed?
That BTSI override button/clip should be bright pink. Not sure if you can actually see that through the bottom of the cubby bin. I've only looked at it when I had the console up/off.
So... did it work? I don't think anyone has actually tried the override thingy after their spring retainer broke or after the solenoid failed. That lock mechanism down there works with a spring and a solenoid. You can't turn the key to the lock position unless the shifter is in park. If the shifter is in park and you turn the key to the lock position then a lock pin or something can slide into position mechanically locking the shifter in the park position. I don't believe the pin can physically slide into position when the shifter is not in park. All the failure cases (spring/spring retainer breaks, no power to the solenoid) result in the pin locking the shifter in park and not retracting. Assumably the override mechanically retracts the pin (hopefully it's not just for the solenoid and still requires the spring). The previous few failures involved the plastic spring retainer breaking. It's a plastic hook for one end of the spring. The spring wears through the plastic or it just gets fatigued and breaks. The BT part replaces the plastic spring retainer with a billet one. I don't think the last person this happened to was aware of the override thingy. They removed their console, found the broken retainer and used chicken wire or something to hold the end of the spring until they got to the dealer. Note: I think using the override may also disable the reverse lockout (same pin?). Just in case, do not put the car in reverse going down the freeway.
jon - i know your feelings about bt, but they have the product and it is not some kind of one off special item that you have asked about in the past and have run into issues with. this is a product unique to them and no one else. if another company is saying they have one, i am quite sure it came from bt. it will solve your issue for good with the shifter so i would suggest putting past issues aside and get the fix that will last the life of your car!
Chris, I do NOT want to have this turn into any sort of vendor bashing at all. I've accepted that they don't want my buisness so they're not going to get it, that simple. I have connections to a shop with a CNC that can make anything that BT can, so I'll just go that route.:thumb:
Draggin .. I cant speak on the situation you had with BT nor do I wish involved, but I can say that being in a manufacturing business is tough and when you go through a huge growth, it can affect your customers in certain ways ... as they say, excessive growth can kill a company just as fast as no growth ... BT have been great .. I know what if I were them, I would wish I would be given the opportunity to redeem myself and get you back in my good graces ... good luck getting your problem fixed ... isnt it awesome being able to turn to these sites for information!!! Sam's post (OMSRT8) could have possibly saved you the money of having your car towed .. Thanks Sam, this information is burned in my brain for when this happens to me ...
