car runs great still it just make a loud whining noise. Make the noise really loud when I turn the wheel or give it gas. I was thinking power steering but the wheel is still turning great. Please keep in mind right before this noise happened I was DOI g launches and when it hit second it felt like the front wheels came off the ground. This was all NA. If the car still runs good I am planning on still going to sac tom. Any one think this is a bad idea?

Sounds like PS pump. Did you check the fluid level?

I also suggested power steering fluid.

Well, comsidering our cars are fixed with Rack and Pinion, it may be the "Power Assist", but when mine went out, there was NO noise. Just couldn't make turns without breaking a sweat. lol

Could you give a better discription of the symptoms please?

If the ps level is low the pump will whine. It may or may not have done any damage to the pump. The question is where did the ps fluid go? See if you can find a leak.

I wouldn't drag race that way until you find the problem. The pump will go out without enough fluid. Even before that happens the fluid level may get low enough for you to lose your power assist. You really don't want to get squirlley without the power assist.

Worst case scenario. You blow power steering fluid on the track which causes you to get sideways and you can't correct because you lost the power assist.

I've heard of the power steering going out on the road courses due in part to overheating. If its already having issues before you go to the strip, I wouldn't be going at all. *knocking on wood, no issues with mine*

I would check the level, if it is low, fill it up and watch it to see if there is a big leak. If it was a big leak, it would be real noisey, but I suspect you have a small leak or over a period of time with all the installs, some could have spilled out when they removed the resevoir from the drivers side head.
