So again, while broken a friend offered to install my 3" TBE ED exhaust, well in the process 1 of the 3 bolts to the downpipe broke a tang making it spin freely so unable to loosen that bolt.

After thinking about how to do it, I am about to go to an exhaust shop to get it done, however I have some questions.

Bare with me as I have not inspected this myself yet, but when I do I want to be prepared to go for it.

So my thoughts are to remove the DP and the o2 housing as one piece. Is this even possible? What if I loosen the 2 good bolts to swing the dp out of the way for clearence?

I believe they tried welding the bolt in place and it kept breaking the weld, do you have thoughts on how to get it to stay still?

At this point I am not going to leave the stock torn up o2 housing in place, no way in hell cause if I ever want to change up my exhaust again I will have to deal with that BS. So I am in deep.

    Gimme your 2 cents!

What kind of friend JACKS up your car and leaves it like that? god damn!

Get it to an exhaust place and have them throw out a recommendation.

im guessing its the top bolt on the DP.
if so you need to get a wrench on the back nut as i had that same problem with both cruiser and skittle. its a very tight fit but you can get a wrench on there.

you cant take the downpipe and O2 off together. the lower heat sheld gets in the way unless you cut it off. which is kindo hard, i had to do that on the O2 housing on the Cruiser since the bottom bolt on the heat shield striped despite being soaked with PB blaster.
you also need to unbolt the bracket connected on the bottom of the manifold so you can pull off the heat sheild. or if you get your hands on some anivotation snips (sheet metal snips) you can cut the sheild off the bracket. then you can get to the 4 bolts on the O2 housing.

*sigh* exactly what I was expecting. I would rather not destroy the heat shield honestly.

and the heat shield wont fit on a 3in O2 with out some modification.

i just removed it completely on both and kept the upper one. even though the engine bay is a little smaller in the PT it doesnt heat soak the engine and temp is sitting at 170degish.

So what you didn't believe me? :p

We already tried the wrench behind it but unfortunately it is so badly rusted that it wont break loose. Pb blasted it, even welded it to the o2 housing and it just kept breaking the welds. I'm thinking it just needs to be melted out with a plasma torch.
