DRP brought his Charger SRT8 to us for a 426 stroker installation, and we got to work on it yesterday. In the past we have done long tubes and nitrous, and now he's really making us work! Here are some iPhone pics from the tear-down, and I'll post pics along the way. Hopefully the engine will get here soon! Muggsy makes his first appearance! DRP was on the phone when I took this and he reminded me I needed to get Muggsy involved! Muggsy did it all. We'll start tearing the motor down next! More pics to follow.
hmmm Dropping the entire drive train and front suspension is a bit odd? Seems like it would be more work? Oh well, as long as its out... hehe
No, it's the best way to do it, and you don't scratch up the engine bay lowering the engine in. A couple bolts for the back of the driveshaft and it all comes out as one piece, nice and easy. The fewer things you undo the fewer chance for issue!
Since we're waiting on the motor until Friday now, we haven't done too much, but here are some more pics ... The motor should be here tomorrow!!
DRP, your new engine has arrived!! Here are some pics coming from the truck, into the shop, the unwrapping, and then the orange beauty!! Also, with the motor are head gaskets and studs of some sort - they are loose in a box with packing peanuts, and I haven't taken them all out yet. I have to say, I am disappointed in the way this was packaged. We have built and shipped Ford short blocks for years and always packaged them in a built crate, enclosed on all sides. We actually included a stock oil pan to protect the crank and rods, and bolted pieces of wood to the block using the head stud holes, so that nothing could get inside. That's probably a bit extreme on being overly cautious since truck freight is pretty decent, and especially since those short blocks were 1/2 the price of this 426. But I was shocked to see this short block in a bag, on the pallet, with cellophane wrapping and some cardboard. We're going to get it on the engine stand and will clean it up, get all the debris out of the cylinders and I'll take some better pics of the motor with my nice camera. The iPhone pics are alright for on-the-fly, but you won't be able to make out the "DRP" on the piston.
Yea, I was thinking the same thing about the packaging, Lisa. Usually most will crate a motor up as you stated for added protection. Oh well, as long as it is undamaged, that is the main thing.

This is a great sequence of pictures of the tear down and build, I love how you keep us updated on the project Lisa. I would really be interested in what this project is going to cost.
Of course ... you just can't see them cause he had the head and valve cover on before I got out there to take the pic, lol.
