I got pulled over for doing 90 in a 65, it is a 4 point violation in NJ. My question is will the points transfer to NY and will my insurance go up? Trying to figure if I need a traffic lawyer and if its worth it. Please dont give me maybe answers I need some definite answers. And no I was not in my Charger and the NJ Trooper did not honor any PBA cards, hope your cruiser blows up you prick.
Its a card that there PBA (union) gives all officers to give family members for times like this one, but the scumbag did not accept it at all. What comes around goes around, I hope one of his family members get pulled over and they reach the same fate.
a couple things as I am experienced with this subject .. 1. points in NJ dont transfer to PA ... I heard that PA is too large for them to administer their own points system that it will be hard to get the points from systems in other states ... 2. for comfort .. call the cop and tell him your situation .. you travel alot for work and cant afford the points especially in these economic times .. ask him if you fight it if there is something that can be done .. 3. dont spend the money for a lawyer off the bat .. if you have the time to fight it .. try it own your own first .. if you dont get a pleasing decision then dont accept the cops offer and appeal the decision of the judge ... then bring in the lawyer .. this will also tie up the fines and ticket costs for a couple months .. 4. i had a meeting with my insurance agent this week to update my personal items policy .. i have been pulled over over 10 times in my SRT for various stuff .. the only violations that State Farm is aware of is 2 tickets between 2002 and 03. but keep in mind that I have fought every points violation with success for the past couple years. good luck
I believe NY and NJ have reciprocity for *parking* tickets. I think it's a pretty sure thing they also have reciprocity for moving violations. 1) call your insurance agent "If I get a moving violation in NJ will my rates go up?". It's not like if you don't mention it they're going to miss it somehow if and when it shows up in the DMV. 2) call a traffic lawyer. They should talk to you for free for 15 minutes. "I got a speeding ticket in NJ. Will I get points in NY?" Then if the answer is yes, "What are your fees, what will you do for me/why should I hire you, and what are my chances?"
I'm 99.9999999999% sure that you only get points on your license if you are pulled over in NY but yes your Insurance will go up if you are cited for a moving violation....doesn't matter where. now go get em!!!!! good luck buddy! haha
Sorry about getting that ticket. Doesn't suprise me the NJ/Leo would not accept PBA card. I think that NY and NJ do have reciprocity with Moving violations. CoolFlo's ideas are interesting maybe you ought to try his methods. Good luck and keep us informed. BTW 90 in a 65 oh well. That is going to hurt. Next time maybe you should outrun the cop. J/K-Just noticed you weren't in your Charger.
It is possible that maybe it is reported but NY does not give you points for it. Sounds like they might suspend your license if you don't pay an out of state ticket but the points may not count. That doesn't mean that the insurance company won't act on it. I'd call the DMV and see what the current situation is on the points. This is from here (scroll down the page a ways). http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmvfaqs.htm Then there is this Driver's License Compact (DLC) and Non-Resident Violation Agreement (NRVC) thing. This means that members will report some violations to your state. What your state does with that information is not specified. I think maybe only Michigan and Georgia are not currently in the compact? http://www.aamva.org/KnowledgeCenter/Driver/Compacts/ http://www.aamva.org/aamva/DocumentDisplay.aspx?id={A0B6D32F-1B87-4430-9639-DAFC6A67AA54} http://www.aamva.org/aamva/DocumentDisplay.aspx?id={65940ACD-983E-421D-A656-5A3A81064D8D} http://www.4carinsurancequotes.com/reciprocity.html
Dave your the man as usual! Thanks buddy, I hired a lawyer to got o court either way, I dont have time to take off work and go to NJ to appear in court.
90 in a 65 is really pushing it. If you were in NC you would be in jail. You took the chance and got caught - now you will be held accountable for you actions. I hope you do get out of it but that is really too fast on the street....people die when hit as speeds like this.... Good luck
When he turned his lights on and I looked at my speedo I was actually doing 82 mph, the LEO did not hit me with a laser he paced me so just because he had to do 90 mph to catch me doesnt mean I was doing 90 mph, a lawyer has been hired and it will be knocked down to something other then a moving violation with no points, I have not gotten a speeding ticket in 20 years, and I was not in my SRT8 I was in my girlfriends SUV.
THANK YOU brother!! People are zooming by me and he pulls me the fu*k over! And my girls lives in NJ with Jersey plates I think they just roll the dice and play pick em on the highway. I felt like saying to him you should have seen me before with the convoy of SRT8's ripping up your precious highway you PRICK!!!!!!!!
