Third time out with drag radials a couple days ago. I have DVSSRTs setup (HHP Stage 2 cam/heads/tc/etc) and took his advice on the launch. Get your tires wet, do a burnout (see some white smoke), brake torque to 1500 or so and roll into the throttle. I've gotten 1.79-1.81s consistently. DVSSRT gets 1.6-1.7s but I think he brings it up to 2500 rpm now before launching. I might try the same once I get my burnout consistent. It is also important to get a good two tire burnout or you may be launching on only one axles which puts extra stress on it. Have a spotter or set up your mirrors to look for smoke from both wheels. If you get a good burnout you should just hook with no wheel hop. I have the 17" cobra rims w/ M/T street ETs which hook really well when warm.
Question...what's the best way to ensure you get both wheels spinning? Do you place your foot on the brake as lightly as you can and then bring the revs up slowly/quickly? Or do you hold the break down hard and give it gas either slowly or quickly. Probably save me a lot of time if I can get that part down pat lol...
I'm not an expert but what I did was apply brakes firmly with my left foot and just floor it. This worked my first two times out as I was able to shift to 2nd around 6000 rpm to avoid hitting rev limiter or limp mode. Seems like you need 5-6000 rpms to get the tires moving fast enough to smoke. My last time out I tried a new tune with more timing which brought the rpm up to 7000 faster than I could shift to second and I hit limp mode 7 out of 8 times. I moved my rev limiter down to 6500 (6400 rpm shift points) and will try shifting to second earlier (maybe 4000 rpm) and will play with feathering the throttle after the wheels start spinning in first. I don't know how to make both tires spin but I think it is important that both tires are equally wet, the track surface is even at both wheels and the weight on the back half of the car is even at both wheels. I think I only had a one wheel burnout for sure once and then I had a spotter who had me smoke them again (the other tire -right rear - then spun too).
best way to get both tires to spin is a LSD but I cant talk since I dont have one of those either. Waiting for eaton to come out wiht a cheaper unit
If you hold the 1500 or so rpms before launch too long does it pull timing like in the Rams? I haven't raced my Challenger yet, Missouri sucks cause track is closed 'til February.
