Most know I part 90% of my car. The car is driving me nuts, its slow. Stock wga, stock surge valve w/blue plate, stock airbox, stock pcm, stock dp. I have the itch to mod and will mod as funds are available. So here I am asking for ideas, thoughts, suggestions. Since I'm back to stock for the most part this gives me the time to mod is right. I would like to work with what I have already. Its got: Mopar/Borla Cat-back exhaust Exhaust Depot Beast Intercooler Then the odds and ends like DCR oil modifier, K&N drop in, Walbro 255 fuel pump, etc. I hate the blue plate. The Boomba BOV was better and the HKS SSQV was better then both the Boomba and blue plate. I'm thinking about going with the Synchronic Bov and AGP UPP. Yeah I know this doesn't get me any power, its just noise but I can't take the blue plate any longer. Definately need a downpipe and no I will not get rid of the mopar/borla cat-back to go full 3". I'm trying to save money not waste it like I've done in the past. I'm looking at the Maxxfab 3" dp w/o cat. Stock airbox is good up to somewhere in the mid or so 300 range but it needs to go because of the bov and upp. So I was debating and thinking maybe a Injen SRI? I don't want CAI. Goal is maybe the low 300 range as far as hp or atleast hit 300. I know its easier to go "big turbo" but then the expense comes in of clutch replacement, fuel, fuel management and list goes on. Which I know it will be needed on a full bolt-on SRT-4 but the expense is less. I've been tossing ideas and setups even thought of one of the AGP kits. My wife's car is an s3r with pretty much everything done so I'm not looking to make my car too drastic. Just want a pretty decent quick DD again . Help!
one place i would start is get an Aftermarket crashbar, the slowboy racing one looks decient. you need to tie the front end together if your gonna start taking corners, with my old BFMIC i could feel the difference in front end flex from the stock IC with crash bar in highspeed corners, which is why i went back to the stock IC and cornering speed and turn in speed increased and oversteer decreased. its also good to try and add a toe hook on it aswell. just as a safey thing you need a way to pull the car incase you go off the track or you can use it at the Strip some one can toe you back so your car cools for its next run, or be like me and pull my wifes old broken cavalier off the U-hall dolly when it got stuck.
Jason lol that doesn't feed my needs. I drive her car once in awhile but I drive my car daily. Thanks for the suggestions Nevin! I have to see if the SBR will work with my current BFMIC. I have a stock IC and reinforcement crash bar in storage but I've been debating going back to it. I got the tow hook, its actually a tow strape with tow ring scca approved. Just came in yesterday and I got a "tow" arrow decal. Both sitting on my comp desk debating if I should put it on. Only way I see it working is if I put my stock ic back on. As much as I would like to do autox/rr it seems to be a great expense and all the regulations/rules deter me. Looks like a lot of fun and they have a local group that does the autox and teaches noobs as well. Something else I've been putting off. Mods I haven't installed and are going to be installed this weekend for sure is Mopar Performance spark plug wires and Perrin Radiator Shroud.
If you can get the SBR one privately, I would do that. I've heard a lot of horror stories from close friends about dealing directly with SBR, and that's not including that huge thread on the srtforum.
Cheryl knows someone who works for SBR. She deals directly with them. We haven't had any problems with SBR when we were in the DSM scene. I have been fortunate, because I actually call companies or get in contact with them first to make sure items/parts are in stock before just ordering online. I play it smart .
Before I went big turbo I had a JMB 3" 02 housing back side exit with cat. JMB Pressure Pipes with Greddy S Stage 2 inj Stage 2 WGA(held me back due to only holding 15psi) 62mm TB with pnp matched intake manifold JMB CAI I put down 268whp(due to wga) and 328wtq!!!! Stock clutch started slipping on dyno also. Just and FYI. If I woulda had a good clutch and agp wga I should been right at/under 300whp. Oh and I like JMB. He dosen't list his exhuast on line because he does whatever you want. Give him a call. Nicest guy you will ever talk to and best customer service I have ever dealt with.
Something I've noticed from the few SCCA autoX events I went to...not sure if Nevin has noticed this or not. The more you mod your car the harder it will be to actually win your class. The NSRT-4 already competes against some stiff competition. With just Stage 1 I was classed with modded EVO's and STI's...personally I didn't care, as I was there to have fun, not win. But if you want to try to win I'd suggest staying stock.
yup i know that and im still looking over the rule book to see if i can bump down a class. towards the end of the year i was improperly classed and stuck in CSP with a bunch of Miatas wich is totally unfare they corner like there on railes, i come in middle to 3/4 in the run group. its so freaking hard. i wanna bump down to SM theres more options as far as mods go and more FWDs one i fully know im in the right class i maybe think about doing a few more mods although im not sure what else to do LOL. and jason you dont have to stay completely stock, there are some mods you can do that dont offically count as mods, (bushings, camberkit, brakes and lines, harness, toe hook, hardpipes, bov and a few others)
JMB is awesome! I've ordered a few things from them in the past. Very nice numbers! Was this on the stock PCM or did you have a Stage upgrade? Judging by the wga and injectors I'm thinking you did this with the Stage 2 upgrade with or without toys? Booo, I'm not keeping my car stock or putting it back to stock. Its mostly back to stock now and it sucks to the point my car isn't even fun.
monday when i get back to work i'll post up the 2008 SCCA rule book. i have it saved on my favorites but not at home. and you dont have to demod any more.
How would they know you were Stage 1? I mean if you are an 04-05 all you need is the PCM, they can't tell there is a different PCM in there, or can they? I know on my car the "Stage 1" part is covered by the bracket. You would think they would have a FWD SCCA class. I mean thats not fair for a Neon to go against RWD Miatahs and AWD Evolutions.
To the trained eye you can easily tell the difference between someone running a stock pcm vs someone running a stage pcm on these cars. The stock PCM's has a sticker on the top with barcodes and numbers. You can see it by just popping the hood and looking down at the PCM. Its right on the top. Stage PCM's do not have this sticker on the top of the PCM.
It just depends on the guys teching the car...the guy who introduced me to autoX is a local who was real big in the SRT-4 scene. So I guess they knew what to look for...plus when he asked what stage the car was I said 1.
in the same boat...my mods really don't consist of anything besides bov, wga, dump, and DS. I'm still learning the DS, and have yet to even dyno the car...go figure
they do have FWD classes but SRTs dont fall into them. we make too much power stock. that class is for CRX's and Del Sol's. and its perfectly fair, if you have the mods either demod or drive faster. im equivalent to a Miata it sucks but thats the way it is.
