what is the difference in getting wheels powder coating and painting them black. i went to a local body shop and ask them to powder coat the inside pockets of my wheel.the guy said we dont powder coat wheel but we can paint the pockets black. my question is,what is the difference?
Huge difference. Paint will/can scratch rather easily. Powder coating is much more durable and will last longer than regular paint.
a guy on this forum had some on a csrt8 that he was selling at 1 point.dont know his screen name but the wheels looked damn good. the only thing that comes to mind is GREEN MONSTER or something close to that.
besides black, what other colors can be used to powder coat wheels? im asking because i saw a ''caliber srt'' and the wheels were a gray looking color.
Powder coating provides a better, more evenly distributed coating. No runs due to sucky painters. If you have a choice, ALWAYS take the powder coat...
well,im thinking about pulling the trigger on the ''compition gray'' color on the 06 maggy wheels. thanks to everyone the the quick info.
Painting rims = SUCKS!!! I painted my stock rims with the "tougher more durable paint specifically desgined for rims" they still chipped in less than 3 months due to road debris and stupid wheel techs. I refuse to paint or have rims painted again...I would say powder coating FTW!!!
painted wheels will not uphold its appearance over time .. the paint will chip, peel or scratch easily .. it will be a constant maintenance nightmare for you .. powdercoating takes a powder thats electrostatically charged and attaches itself to electrically ground parts .. the powder is then melted using these large ovens .. its a pretty sophisticated process. since the powdercoat is essentially a film over the wheel, it is a lot more durable and can withstand higher temperatures and quick temperature changes .. like when under extreme braking ... you may spend more for the powdercoat but the overall quality can't be matched .. and your doing the job right the first time ... good luck!
I had the wheels on my Mag powder coated in a clearish black powder coat. It has the look of black chrome. The process is a little bit more costly since the entire face of the rim has to be polished after it's stripped and before it's powder coated. I had mine done a little over a year ago and they still look like they were done yesterday. http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp231/Mudak1/P1010166.jpg
Sure! The close up shot of the wheel looks better. It's freaky that the wheels look darker when it's sunny out and vice versa when it's cloudy. http://s415.photobucket.com/albums/pp231/Mudak1/?action=view¤t=P1010179.jpg
