SRT/C, Curious if anyone has first-hand knowledge of the difference, if any, between the installation of the shift knobs on an 06 versus an 07. I assume they are both threaded and a simple turn will remove / install both years. Reading a post from a Charger forum - someone stated the 07's are not threaded at all. A simple release of the bottom silver band and the knob pops off. My goal is / was to switch out my 07 leather / red stitched for a 06 leather / silver. This may not be a simple mod after all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I'm pretty sure they're the same threaded type knob. I have a Maggie so it could be different but I doubt it. Mine's an 06 and I got a knob from an 07 cause I wanted the red stitching and they were the same, just screwed on and off. Check parts at the dealer, see what they say.
Thanks for your insight - I have an 06 knob coming from a forum member and once it shows; I will definitely do a comparison. Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well - I'm thinking the 06 knob, with the silver stripe down the center, will go great with my silver carbon fiber kit I installed on my dash. Have a good one and a very Merry Christmas.
I think it's the Jeeps that have a set screw or something different. Ours just screw on and off. The stock knobs have nylon inside to grip it. For aftermarket ones use blue locktite (don't drip on the console).
05 and 06 can be twisted off.Early build 07s are also screw off type shifters.Late build 07s and newer are different.Watch this video and see how late built 07s and newer Lx shift knobs are removed http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=141864
thanks for this information; helps a ton. My car was a late build in 07, May to be exact; so I will need to get a late model 07 knob to switch out with mine. I am hoping to get my hands on the style knob, just like in the video, to switch out with the one I have. Might take awhile but hopefully I can get my hands on one. Have a good one and again; thanks
