I got a call earlier tonight from my friend Greg M., the owner of a red 05 SRT-10 truck. The truck got a little sideways coming out of a turn, and he over-corrected, then over-over corrected and ended up smacking the K-rail and rolling the truck over. Greg is okay, but a bit shaken up. No other vehicles or persons were involved in the incident. I haven't seen the truck yet, but he said he's looking at a "f-load of body work" if the insurance company doesn't total it. He said the drivetrain was still solid. Greg's not a big online guy, so I'll post updates as I get them.
Yeah i am glad he is ok. I was shocked earlier when you texted me. It's to bad because i know he had big plans for his truck.I hope he can get it fixed but it does not sound like it.:cry2:
Yeah. I talked to him a little while ago and got more details. - Wet roads - OEM tires (really made for track driving; soft compound) - 0.00 lbs. over the rear wheels. Greg was changing lanes, left to right, at about 60-62 mph (speed limit was 65). Rear end came out, he tried to correct...and we SRT-10 drivers know how the sad tale ends. Correction to my earlier post: it was a regular metal guard rail. Not a K-rail. Truck rolled 4.5 times, ending up on it's roof. Airbags were deployed. He WAS wearing his seat belt. He said it was on the 11PM news stations in Toledo (WTVG and WNWO). I'm sure they'll have video online soon. He's bummed because he loved the truck (Keith's witnessed it...heh heh) and did have some humgo plans for it over the winter. *sigh* I'm just glad to hear he's still got 10 fingers and 10 toes attached. Trucks can be replaced; people can't. He asked me to check AutoTrader.com real quick for SRT-10's. He'll be back. (BTW- If anyone is looking for a QC, they're ALL on AutoTrader. I mean, I'm pretty sure it's every single one ever built...maybe minus 2 or 3. LOL)
Is he going to part out his old truck? Oh and DID THE WING SURVIVE???????:grin::grin::grin::grin:
Not sure. Waiting to hear from the ins. company on it's status. Like the hockey team up north: DEAD WING. The corner of the bed was the first part to hit during the roll, so.... (For those who don't know, it's VERY RARE for the SRT-10 wing NOT to survive an accident.)
Atleast he manned up to his mistake....a lot of people bullshit and blame it on other drivers...glad he's alright
Not sure I'd call crappy weather/slick roadway "his mistake". News article link: http://abclocal.go.com/wtvg/story?section=news/local&id=6503497
Glad he's ok.... But it's rare for any SRT wing to break. I think if they made the car with the same material they make the wing out of, nobody would ever get hurt.
Yea, I was thinking the same thing Kevan. Those who have never driven (and I mean really driven) an SRT10 will never know how they react in different conditions. Especially with those shitty Scorpion tires...
Yeah, Ron. You'll have to ask your awesome wife about REALLY driving the SRT-10. :ronlove: You're correct about the OEM Pirelli Scorpions. On public roadways, they are barely okay. On wet roads, they are teflon. BUT...put them on a nice dry track and you've got grip that would make G.I. Joe jealous.
WOW!!! HE walked away because the brunt of the damage was to the passenger side... Very fortunate indeed.
