Over the past 4 years Wendy and I have been part of the Family Abuse Center board that oversees its yearly fund raising activities and from year to year it varies. This year we decided to do an on-line Auction that covers a variety of things, some are local but there are some really nice trips that anyone from anywhere can bid on and win. The one I like is the trip to Duck,NC from the pics I have seen it is beautiful. With Federal and State shortages on funding the first thing to be cut is Social Funding. We service not just 1 County but 4. Over the last year we serviced 900 Women and Childen with 70% of our clients being children under the age of 12. We currently have 31 children and 50 Women at the shelter, we provide of course shelter, clothing , counseling, education and job placement for battered and abused Women. This hit close to home for me as 5 years ago as I lost a long time childhood friend to domestic violence and have seen first hand the brutality that humans can wreak on others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWOh50s1XNE this is one of our clients, It is only with private and State funding that we are able to keep the doors open and it DOES make a difference in their lives.
