I have a 07 SRT8 Magnum.. anyone have good or bad experience with clear bras. Can't decide if I should install one or not. cheers
thats was funny. iwas looking at getting a clear bra for my 06 srt mag. i was quoted $600.00 for the kit.
Is this the stick on one or the spray on one?.....the spray on one is much more expensive (I think Wade...CentralTxHemi has it)....but would be pretty cool to look into.... Wade????
This is what I do for a living. I'll help you out if you need some direction. I've had a lot of good experiences having them on all of my cars, especially depending on where you live. The material will protect the paint pretty damn well against the upcoming winter salt and sand from the road. In the warmer months, it really helps the bug guts from eating into your paint. It also absorbs waxes pretty well which helps when trying to get all the everyday road grime off the front of your vehicle. I also have an 07 Mag... The front clip is pretty much like the front of a brick going down the road; I recommend it. Go with 3M or Venture Film. 3M has a 5 year warranty, Venture had a lifetime one. If you're buying the precut kit yourself and plan to install it yourself, let me know as i can get the precut kits at wholesale prices as I'm an authorized purchaser/installer. Let me know if you have anymore questions! -Steve
I had the 3M put on the wife's Cooper when I bought it. It works as advertized. The hood was damaged recently by a large chunk of concrete. While at the body shop I wanted to have the clear bra on the bumper cover replaced as the edge had started to pull off from a large bug that had hit the edge and gotten underneath. I neglected to fix it right away and water got behind it. When they pulled the bra off the bumper cover the clear coat came off in several places. I had to have the bumper cover repainted. Due to this experience I have begun to wonder about the practicality of this product. It does what 3M claims in protecting the paint and being durable. Three years after buying the Cooper the front edge of the hood looks as good as the side of the car (other than the huge dent). Any damage that goes beyond what the product can proivide protection for can become far more expensive to fix than it would have been without the clear bra having been installed. Seems like a gamble, based on this one persons experience. Not sure if I will put it on my next ride or not.
Interesting observations. Sounds like it would still be a good idea if you drive where you need it and put it on as a permanent cover (never planned to remove it). Some have a lifetime warranty don't they? So if it started to lift or yellow they could replace it right?
Sounds like alot of good opinions. Wonder if there make em for the neon? And also, if I bought it from you at the wholesale price and got it done somewhere else, would it be overall cheaper for me? lol. Thanks for the advice.
I'd imagine it would save you a couple bucks. Nine times out of ten when I'm working on a customes car, I make some money off the material but installation is where I make most of t. It takes a decent amount of practice and experience to figure out how to stretch a flat piece of material around a curved front end or anything curved for that matter. If you found a local installer and brought him the kit or just bulk material, the typical install price should be about $180-240 in my opinion (for the Neon),so yeah, you'd save some cash on the material up charge. Also don't forget, now that the economy is taking a crap, if you find someone local who says they'll charge you $500 installed (example), don't be afraid to negotiate with them! Fall and winter are the slower seasons and with everything the way it is right now, they might be willing to drop their price to get your business! Good luck!
