With our Vortech kits, would a torque converter do anything to improve launches?

This shouldn't be in the S/C forum.

Yes, a TC would be a GREAT mod for anyone. Modifications or not.

My bad... I was thinking improvements for blower vehicles... move it homes...

So, Ron, et.al., does this make for a less streetable car? What exactly, in layman's terms does the TC do? Hard to install? What suggestions would you make regarding a particular TC?

Streetable. hmmm Well my 2800 stall has an ever so slight feel of a slipping clutch. lol But that depends on the RPM I am at. So yes, IMO, it is very streetable. Operator just needs to readjust to the cars driving habit. haha

The TC allows you to stall (bring up the RPM's) to 2500 -2800 without spinning the tires while on the brakes. This puts your car into a higher HP band for a quick launch.

Is is hard to install? Not for a professional who knows what they are doing. The Transmission needs to be removed to accomplish this.

My TC was made out of Florida. Suncoast I think?

Our Supporting Vendors all have some pretty good TC's available, so I would suggest you check with them. SGT Stanko could probably get you a pretty sweet deal?

Ron, thanks! So, in order for the TC to 'work' or to get the most out of it, you need to brake and raise RPMs? How does it effect normal driving conditions (aka: slowly moving from a red light)?

I'm just hypothesizing of things to improve upon what I already have is all.

jason - i just ordered a new tc from rdp. i am looking to allow myself to launch the car a little harder (as much as my tires can grip) and also rid myself of an annoying trait of the car where as it spins the tires hard in first, but then shifts too early and bogs in second!!! i will report back when i get it installed and what my thoughts are!!! i have some track times with the stock convertor, so i will have a base line to see actual measurable results. from what i have been told by the "experts" it will make for a more fun car!!!

well, with the ability to stall it higher in the rpm range, it will do that...... the limiting factor will be tire grip!

Driving on the street, you really won't see much of the effects of the TC.

At the track, times can be increased as much as .3 tenths off your time.

At the stop light, on street radials, you will be able to stall up to around 2K rpm. If you launch, you WILL roast rubber. haha The cool factor.

Not necessarily... there's a fun factor too... sure, it'll make you quicker on the street or track.

man your already not getting traction as it is. you need better tires and half shafts. but yea leaving the line at 3k your boost will already be coming on. less time spooling up right?

I have a ProTorque 2800 in the car, and it's pretty good. I can definitely stall higher but I go up in smoke if it's too much. The car can feel like you have to give it more pedal to move the same rate. I got used to it quickly. Also, while reversing it feels the same...a little more gas to get her moving. Entirely streetable like Ron said though and it's more a matter of adjusting your driving habits. Once I get the DR's on, I'm hoping to utilize a much higher rpm point and launch harder. It'll make a difference in performance, but for me, felt a bit weird for everyday driving until I grew accustomed to it.

and hopefully keep the smoke show going through more than first gear!!!! hahahaha

what do you mean by "more pedal to move the same rate????? are you saying you have less throttle response???? would you do it again???

I'm assuming half shafts are a must with this upgrade?
