It is a great story but it sounds to me like an opportunity that you should be capitalizing on Erik. From what you have built and what you have learned, can you market an economical hardware, tuning and installation package that will guarantee these cars to go deep into the 10's?
Great story and history of the car. To bad you had to sell it, but atleast it went to someone who finish the project.
You did a kick ass job putting her together bud. It's amazing a home made, full weight, budget built grocery getter just took the title. And not by just a little either Major props to you, Mike and Chris.
Nice history story. Gives the car a lot of "provenance" as they say in the collectors world... 10's even on a stock crank and block. That is great news. To compare or compete.... the stroker guys should be aiming for low 10s for 392 and 9s for the 426. AND they can push their cars a little more due to forged cranks. My son spent a mound of money getting a bunch of minimal crap done on his car because it didn't "run right". I knew it was running like it couldn't breath..... but I never thought of the cats being clogged, because I had never heard of it. Then some smart mechanic looking at the "computer data" found the packed converters. He said a lot of mechanics miss it cause you have to look at the "cat temp". I knew what he was talking about because the DashHawk gets these temps from the PCM (but I don't really know what normal is, but I am montiroing it ocassionally...lol). After new cats....his car ran 75% better + gas mileage went way up.
LOL. Not in the corner. But for what it's worth, I certainly understand how much effort you put into that build, and I know your post oversimplifies and omits about 99% of the actual work. Well done sir. Well done!
If i could do it al over again I would get a 392 and boost the hell out of it. but I am where I am. so here comes a f1
Crap....I didnt' know the stock crank was forged. I could have sworn I have heard a lot of members saying it is also a weak link in the block. Thanks for that info. That changes my view of a 392... far cheaper to just forge the rods and pistons.
Internet myths. Just like how our top ring lands are "too thin" for nitrous and they'll break easily. Whatever. Stock bottom end works very well thank you. Stock crank and main caps are especially up to the task. There are NO reports of properly tuned engines blowing rods or pistons yet. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Once upon a time someone said our pistons were weak, and people believed it, and it became so. :bs:
Good to know the 370 crank is so strong, anyone know how the strength of the 392 crank compared to the 370 crank? Once again, great build gentlemen! I'd also like to ask how the transmission held up to this, I'm worried about my transmission and I have my boost turned down because of it. BTW, what hp and tq # propelled this sled to victory?
Same Crank! The hp and torque #'s are not known yet but I would venture a guess it's very close if not over 800rwhp.
I was down seeing the Maggie there without you Erik....but your right that Chris is a good d00d and that you picked a very worthy owner!!!!! the things a monster!!!
I still think the 1.8 60' on RSA's was one of the best achievments ever. I think our reported cat temp is a "modeled" number. We don't have any temp sensors in or near the cats. If you still have your rear O2s hooked up I suppose a restriction would trigger a cat efficiency code but I'm not sure of that.
Thanks but I beat that last fall with a 1.78....that was the last time I ever raced the car on street tires.
