DynoSteve, When you Dyno/Street tuned my SRT you went thru a certain procedure on the street to make my tranny shift so sweet. You are a great CMR tuner...maybe you would like to post the procedure you use. I was with you when you did it to my car but I could not rememeber what you did. Maybe you would like to post that procedure and we could make it a sticky? I know some of the adaptives are short term but some are long term and the improvements from proper traininig after a reset will last longer. (Is this a true statement?) It would be nice to do on the way to the track after we have spent a long time using our car as a daily driver, maybe want to crisp it up for the weekend or we have had to load the original backup tune have now reloaded your CMR tune but also want the shifting performance improvement also.
Let her rip through the gears at WOT three consecutive times. That last run should get your A/F ratios closer to optimum and the tranny will shift better after a reset. Works for me anyways.
bump again....... i REALLY want to know what the procedure is...... with having to do sooooo much slow traffic driving with my short drive to work, the adaptives get a little sliggish after a month or so.....
I was sort of being tacky for answering it that way, but it was sort of my way of giving it a bump. To attract his attention. I know he will answer one way or the other. I also know he is a very busy man.
I thought it was do a lot of shifting for about 10 minutes. Up, down, automatic mode, whatever. Then do a couple WOT runs and you're done.
When I went with him during the "street tune" we did several WOT runs (thru a neighborhood in the wrong part of town, but fun) in mostly 1-2 and 2-3. I could have sworn he mentioned he wanted to hit a certain rpm (or was it mph?) to get 2-3 right, but it was hard to do because of the street layout (we still did it though). I would say that we probably need a freeway or a long empty street to do this becaise I bet there is some tuning at 3-4. The more interesting thing I noticed after the tune was that even driving normal in auto-stick produced a very nice shift. It wasn't hard at all to get a firm tire-chirping 1-2 shift (on 275/40 tires) at what seemed to be less than 3/4 throttle. But it seemed the rpm had to be just right to get the firmer upshift. To be detailed in the question... I was interested if: Are the PIDS (that the "tuning adaptives" data is written to) in the PCM and/or TCM and how is this info processed? 1) Do the adaptives use "speed" based mph and/or rpm? 2) Are any "adaptives" based on or affected by time between a certain mph or rpm range? For example on a "response time to go from 1500 to 3000" = adjust clutch pressure durnig shift response or is it just above this rpm adjust shift. 3) Are ALL tuning passes done at WOT? 4) How many 1-2 passes required and what minimum speed for shift? 5) How many 2-3 passes required and what minimum speed for shift? 6) Is 3-4 a good idea also, I guess that follows on to 4-5 if... I am running the standing mile or Bonneville Salt Flats?......lol 7) And of course....how long do the "adaptives" (parameters for PIDS) last if my car is a daily driver. Actually this question could be answered relating to what part of the shifting performance "adaptives" are based on short-term adaptives" or "long-term adaptives". Did I miss anything?....
yes mate i did miss the post i'm sorry, the process is something i have come up with over the years working will adaptive tcm units, and its only something i do for my customers as part of my service to you, i'll be in ca next month as we can hook up and i'll teach you how to do it mate, this time with no little blue lights behind us hehe
If you come to Tampa, you can count me as a customer. Or, depending on when you come to Orlando, if you are only coming to Orlando, I will drive over there and you can do Chris's and mine on the same trip!!
Florida here Steve..... I know about 3 or 4 people who would be interested in Orlando or Tampa...... Orlando preferrably. It's kinda in the middle of all of us!!
if we keep bugging steve, maybe we can convince him to come back out to florida!!! i can always host the "street dyno tuning" at my house......... my neighborhood is not stranger to tire marks!!!
