0-40w Mobil 1 syn is the recommended oil by the factory.....you will probably get a lot of "IMO" posted on different oil weights.........you can also search as there are other threads about oil you might find interesting...
like larry said, mobil 40w synthetic is factory, but now is 15-50 synthetic mobile due to the "whine" caused by the oil squirters in the cylinders. dodge did a tsb on this a long while back. i run mobile 15-50 with zero issues!!!
Chris is correct on this but the TSB recommends going back to 0/40 during winter months if your area has cold temps...Chris is in FL so no worries for him.....
ahhhhhh yes larry........ being down here in the friggin tropics, one tends to forget that some people actually get cold at certain parts of the year!!! lol
I am using RP but I of course dont have a Hemi....the Viper 10 gets the same oil recommendation though..0/40 Mobil 1..........I have used Royal purple for the last 2 changes but may go back to Mobile 1.....I read a test of different oils and the Mobile 1 actually produced more HP than any of the others including RP..
I have not switched to synthetic yet, I did regular oil for the first 10 minutes and changed it, the second 200 miles with regular oil and then, this race oil for 2 changes in a couple thousand miles and am going to change to synthetic now
Mobil 1 Turbo Disel 5w40...I'm serious http://www.300cforums.com/forums/sr...40.html?highlight=mobil+one+turbo+diesel+5w40 Used it for my first time on my last oil change back in June and like it.
That is very intertesting, that thread is very informative, it was a year ago is it still good advice
all I run and never had a problem with it royal purpal xpt( Thier racing oil) or somthing like that been awhile since I did it . Right now I am using joe gibs break in oil
I am running Amsoil 0w-30 and have had great results. I switched after I installed the lower temperature thermostat. My reasoning was the car never gets as hot as it use to, so the oil never has a chance to thin down as much as it use to. The goal was to keep the oil flowing and maximizing lubrication and cooling. I would love to hear feedback on my theory. A great read on oil viscosity is http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136052 Thanks, Wally.
In regards to the Mobil1 5W40 Turbo Diesel, the old school formula that made it so desirable has recently changed to one much more similar to the 0W40...so if you are looking for it try to find the bottles that DO NOT say SuperSyn technology on the front. I may try AMSOIL Euro-Spec 5W40 when my supply of 5W40 turbo diesel runs out. Eric
Do all you guys get oil squiter noise?? Both my SRT8s have done it. I just changed up to 10w-40 full synthetic. I think it may have helped it.
I still see it in some auto stores, while the one by my house is out of it and now only has the new stuff - because I bought all of theirs I don't want to buy another $500 of oil and line the garage with it...but it may come down to that - or I'll just have to switch oils. Eric
When I picked up my 426 from PPP I saw a large barrel of semi-synth 5w30 right at the station where my car was worked on. I drove the 1500 miles home and changed the oil using Amsoil 5w30. I would have just as easily used RP 5w30 but the store only had 4 or 5 quarts on hand, so Amsoil it was. I called Arrington about what oil to use and they were the ones who said 5w30...they built the motor so I went with whatever they suggested. They were using RP 5w30 in their 426s at the time I called a few months ago. I have since bought Amsoil European Formula 5w40 and will put that in when spring rolls around. It is the dumbest thing to go on but just listening to my motor makes me think it wants a little thicker oil in it.
